Job Description

• Ensures overall health and performance of multiple Netezza instances.

• Monitors performance, reliability, availability, scalability, and recoverability.

• Confers with appropriate managers regarding problems with and capabilities of Client/Server databases.

Responsibilities (Job Duties) include:

1. Implements database software installs, upgrades, and patches.
2. Conducts regular database performance testing and tuning.
3. Capacity planning for database storage and memory.
4. Recommends and implements dimensional models, including aggregation.
5. Implements and maintains operational and disaster recovery procedures.
6. Manages database security, user accounts, and access privileges.
7. Writes and maintains UNIX shell scripts for database monitoring and job automation.
8. Performs complex bug verification and release testing for assigned products.
9. Works with fellow DBAs and other internal teams to establish, implement, and document database standards.
10. Confers with internal department managers regarding problems with and the capabilities of various internally-used databases.
11. Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to and willingness to learn new technologies.
12. Advises on database concepts and functional capabilities.
13. Shares responsibility with fellow DBAs for 24/7 on-call support.
14. Recommends systems changes to programming management.

Qualifications

• The candidate must have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in managing Netezza relational database systems.

• The ideal candidate will have some experience supporting Oracle databases as well.

• Strong conceptual and analytic skills.

• Skilled in Netezza SQL programming, with knowledge of operating systems and UNIX scripting languages.

• Knowledge of database security management and data integrity concepts, knowledge of ETL and query tools, and experience in code migration, database change management, and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle.

• A Bachelor\’s degree in business or computer science or equivalent experience is required.
