About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic nursing care to patients, both adolescents and adults, across a continuum.

Duties
- Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to obstetric/gynecology patients and their newborns with medical conditions ranging from routine care to those having complex complications.
- Conduct an advanced level of specialized obstetrical and gynecological nursing care to patients based on a providerâs medical care plan and the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the patient and family.
- Provide care for women requiring low to high-risk ante-partum, intra-partum, post-partum, and gynecological care as well as competence in newborn and couplet care.
- Assign duties and delegate patient care to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, operating room technicians, and medical assistants.
- Develop nursing care plans and procedures, setting standards of care, prescribing special care and identifying specific nursing problems for all patients.
- Perform procedures, treatments, and medication administration.
- Participate in continuing education programs to update and/or maintain skills and knowledge to meet annual requirements.
- Provide evidence-based instructions and education to patient/significant other and/or family members/caregivers.

- This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association (AHA).
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete and maintain credentialing and privileging requirements.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual season influenza vaccinations in accordance with Assistant Secretary of Defense -Health Affairs Policy 08-055.
- This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting).
- This position may require you to be on-call on a rotational basis, responding to emergency calls at times beyond the normal duty day.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

- You must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shifts may be rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Work requires lifting and moving moderate to heavy items up to 40 lbs.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Obstetrics-Gynecology):
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor\’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes: 1) Providing comprehensive nursing care to obstetrics, gynecology, or newborn patients; 2) Coordinating with a multidisciplinary team to manage complications and emergencies to enhance outcomes for patients, AND 3) Providing patient education. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
