Duties

  • Serves as a Child and Youth Services (CYS) Assistant Director of a CYS Program with responsibility for assisting the supervisor in the operation of an assigned CYS program IAW all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Provides program oversight and accountability for the performance of assigned staff and the safety and well-being of children and youth IAW DoD, Army, and local policies and standards.
  • Assists in maintaining DoD/Army certification for assigned program areas, and helps ensure the program achieves and retains national accreditation or Army equivalent and maintains accreditation/Army standards.
  • Provides appropriate staff professional recognition and/or disciplinary action. Conducts written observations of staff during all hours of operation, and evaluates employees based on established performance standards.
  • Works cooperatively with other CYS Managers to ensure seamless service and continuity of quality options for all children and youth. Serves as a member of the CYS Program Plan Team to develop written strategies for program improvement.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of appointment or placement into the position.
  • Proof of education is required at the time of application.
  • Must have a current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy, including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements, and demonstrated on-the-job competency are required. Travel to on and off post locations may be required.

  • Individuals required to register with selective service must have registered before the requirement terminated or become inapplicable.
  • Appointment is subject to a favorable suitability determination.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Travel to on and off post locations may be required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation and the Crime Control Act.

Qualifications

1. Successful completion of a 4-year college or university degree with a major related to the CYS field, such as child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, or special education.

2. In addition to the basic requirements, the following are required:

  • Experience involving teaching children or other relevant work demonstrating the ability to perform the duties.
  • Ability to select, train, and supervise childcare and preschool staff, family childcare providers, or other care-giving adults.
  • Ability to develop and implement child development programs, including family day care, preschool, and before/after school programs.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral, communication, and analytical writing skills, with the ability to present ideas effectively to diverse audiences.

OR

1. Successful completion of at least 24 semester hours in education or a related CYS field, plus relevant work experience.

2. The following are also required:

  • At least 3 months of directly related work experience teaching children or performing similar duties.
  • Ability to develop and implement child development programs.
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Highly preferred candidates will possess:

One (1) year of experience within CYS. The experience and knowledge must be reflected on your resume to be considered highly preferred. Applicants meeting this criterion will be prioritized in the referral process.
