Our client is a subsidiary of a Top-10 global container shipping line with a Fleet Management Division in Hamburg.
Responsibilities:
- Represent the ship-owner onboard vessels and in ports, making appropriate decisions to optimize vessel management.
- Ensure operational monitoring of container ships in your area.
- Initiate investigations, determine necessary purchases and repairs to meet technical norms, expiry dates, and company standards for each vessel.
- Supervise and coordinate crew members and external parties (repair yards, shipping experts, classification societies) during technical interventions.
- Analyze root causes of defects raised by third parties and incorporate feedback into the owned fleet.
- Act as the key contact for chief engineers, captains, lines, and shipyards.
- Draft and monitor operational budgets for each vessel.
- Serve as the appointed ship expert and onsite representative if required.
- Update shipping documents and official certificates necessary for the vessels, monitor consumption (oil, fuel, etc.), and participate in their optimization.
- Ensure the vessels\‘ seaworthiness and business performance, including certificates, international obligations, speed, capacity, and lifting gear.
Minimum Requirements:
- Chief/second engineer license or a degree in naval engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience as a seafarer or in a similar position, with at least 1 year ashore.
- Fluent in spoken and written English; proficient with office and IT tools.
- Good knowledge of international shipping regulations; technical expertise in hull, engines, etc., is a plus.
- Rigour, responsiveness, analytical and synthesis skills, and interpersonal abilities.
- Willingness to travel frequently (about 45 days/year).
- Valid work permit for Germany/EU.
