Scope

The Global Ocean Freight Strategy Manager is responsible for leading a team managing key strategic initiatives. This team develops long-term strategic plans and objectives by identifying strategic issues and opportunities that could influence business growth and profitability. Key responsibilities include overseeing projects and initiatives in procurement, tariff management, sustainability, market intelligence, and operational excellence.

1. Manage Strategic Products and Projects

  • Lead and manage multiple, simultaneous strategic projects by effectively prioritizing initiatives, developing project plans, and collaborating with product and other teams to ensure timely execution.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership across departments to develop and implement strategies aligning with the organization\’s vision and goals.
  • Continuously assess, refine, and adapt the strategic plan to remain relevant amidst changing market conditions and organizational needs.

2. Lead Ocean Product Market Intelligence

  • Conduct in-depth industry research, analyze market trends and competitor activity to inform senior leadership for strategic decision-making, and guide prioritization and resource allocation of new projects or products.
  • Develop and manage an efficient communication framework between the ocean product team and the commercial team, ensuring a regular flow of high-quality content about PSA BDP’s ocean product portfolio, key market insights, and other relevant information.

3. Manage Key Stakeholders

  • Effectively communicate strategic plans and initiatives to key stakeholders, including commercial and product teams, key carriers, co-loaders, and customers, ensuring alignment and understanding.
  • Summarize key insights from data and present complex analyses clearly and concisely to internal audiences across departments.
  • Provide guidance and support to cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders within and outside the ocean product team to consider their needs in strategic planning and increase buy-in.

4. Drive the Implementation of Tariff Environment

  • Establish a tariff environment separating buying and selling processes for all cost items, empowering the ocean product team’s ownership over pricing strategies and operations.
  • Lead the team responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of PSA BDP’s ocean freight tariff structure.
  • Manage goal setting and reporting structures fostering accountability and ownership over tariff accuracy and product competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with sales management, FCL and LCL product heads, and trade managers to identify tariff improvement areas and establish actionable insights for pricing strategies.
  • Align with the tender team to analyze the competitiveness of ocean tender submissions and adapt tariffs accordingly.
  • Foster a culture of accountability within regional teams by establishing insightful metrics for tariff activities.

5. Manage Product Development, Branding & Training

  • Collaborate with regional marketing teams to identify and implement marketing strategies to promote PSA BDP’s ocean products.
  • Create marketing materials (flyers, brochures, presentations) to enhance market awareness and sales.
  • Develop user-oriented training programs with the TED team, HR, and commercial teams to improve knowledge of PSA BDP’s FCL & LCL products and systems.
  • Lead the sustainability initiatives for ocean freight, ensuring awareness of green solutions and their integration into value propositions.

6. Product & Team Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction, and serve as a role model within the regional ocean product management team.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing team to meet objectives and foster continuous improvement.
  • Monitor the performance of the ocean product in terms of volume and profitability to ensure sustainable development.
