Lead Software Engineer

Reports to : Head of Software Development / CTO

Role Overview

My client is looking for an experienced and hands-on Tech Team Lead to guide one of our cross-functional engineering teams. You will lead the design and development of scalable services in their ZONOS IoT platform, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor a talented team of backend and frontend developers. This is a high-impact role focused on delivering secure, distributed, and real-time data systems in critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional development team (backend, frontend, QA).
• Design, develop, and maintain critical components of our ZONOS platform using Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
• Drive architectural decisions and ensure best practices in scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with product owners, DevOps, and QA to deliver high-quality features from concept to production.
• Oversee and improve CI/CD pipelines (Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI).
• Conduct code reviews and pair programming sessions to foster a high-quality engineering culture.
• Manage sprint planning, estimation, and delivery timelines in coordination with the product team.
• Support a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and learning.

Your Profile

• 5+ years of software development experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or senior engineering role.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Java, and experience with Spring Boot.
• Experience with Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, and/or Oracle.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Experience with Angular and TypeScript is a plus.
• Solid understanding of scalable system design, distributed systems, and IoT/edge computing concepts.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
• Fluent in English (German is a plus).
