The Principal Software Engineer provides hands-on technical leadership across Ayunis's product, integration platform, and production infrastructure. The remit combines system design with implementation and debugging, so decisions about platform boundaries, deployment, reliability, and customer-facing integrations remain grounded in what the software needs to do in practice.
This is a role for someone able to move between architectural framing and detailed engineering work. It calls for independent judgement about reliability, delivery speed, simplicity, and customer value, alongside the ability to lead engineers through technical direction rather than formal authority.
Responsibilities
- Develop the architecture of Ayunis Core across frontend, backend, agent runtime, identity, permissions, and extension interfaces.
- Set the technical direction for production infrastructure, including deployments, reliability, observability, security, and readiness for incidents.
- Create stable APIs, software development kits, and reusable integration patterns for external systems, including document-management systems and identity providers.
- Make pragmatic technical trade-offs among delivery speed, simplicity, and long-term maintainability.
- Work with product and customer-facing colleagues to turn recurring needs into reusable product capabilities.
- Give engineers technical guidance that supports independent delivery without relying on formal authority.
- Collaborate with open-source contributors, software vendors, and integration partners where their work connects to the platform.
Qualifications
- Experience operating at Staff, Principal, or a comparable level in a production software environment.
- Strong backend and systems-architecture capability, with the ability to reason across product and operational concerns.
- Hands-on experience with agent runtimes or comparable technology used to build agentic systems.
- Experience with sovereign infrastructure, containers, continuous integration and delivery, scaling, observability, and security.
- Experience designing APIs and integrations, including OAuth or OpenID Connect, webhooks, synchronisation, or event-driven systems.
- Ability to move from high-level architecture to hands-on implementation and debugging when the work requires it.
- A pragmatic product mindset that evaluates technical decisions through reliability, delivery speed, and customer value.
- Confident communication in German and English.
