Job-Titel Technical Lead / Data Architect (m/w/d) Befristung Tätigkeitsbereich Business Unit Tech@Lilly Team ASG Business Insights & Analytics (ASG Data Labs) - Tech@Lilly ASG Hub (Austria, Switzerland, Germany) Einsatzort Germany (Frankfurt area) Gebiet (bei Außendienst) Office based Eingruppierung Must be levelled in collaboration with Compensation & Benefits
Purpose
With its strong pipeline Lilly has the ambition to positively impact the lives of more than 150 Mio people worldwide. We want to get our medicines to those patients as fast as possible. One key enabler is the ability to make HCP/TL-centric, timely, data-driven decisions. Pre-requisites for individualized, automated data-driven insights enabled by advanced analytics is to eliminate data & information silos across functions and geographies and building the relevant capabilities in our teams. To achieve this, we will leverage different analytics projects and initiatives in close cooperation with the international teams and always collaborating with the business units and the ASG Business Insights and Analytics team.
Role Overview
The ASG Data & Analytics program is building a central data platform on the Enterprise Data Backbone (AWS) and Microsoft Fabric that powers analytics products for the Austria, Switzerland, and Germany affiliates – from customer master data and regional sales to HCP-facing applications. The Technical Lead / Data Architect owns the technical direction of this program and acts as the single technical point of contact for the ASG data landscape: shaping solution architecture, guiding a distributed engineering team, and representing ASG’s technical position with business stakeholders, global architects, and enterprise platform teams. The responsibilities of this role will evolve as the organization continues its digital transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Solution Design: Own the end-to-end data architecture across AWS/EDB (Glue, Step Functions, Redshift, S3) and Microsoft Fabric (medallion architecture: Bronze/Silver/Gold), from ingestion through curated data products. Define and evolve architecture standards, decision records (ADRs), naming conventions, and design patterns for the ASG data landscape. Design integration approaches for enterprise source systems (customer master data platforms, consent platforms, CRM, SAP/finance) and assess architectural impact of global platform changes (e.g. CRM migrations, reporting-layer transitions). Evaluate build-vs-adopt decisions for new capabilities and lead technology POCs (e.g. AI-assisted development, MCP-based data access).
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical decision-maker for the program; expedite to and align with Hub/regional/global architects where enterprise direction is affected. Provide technical direction to a distributed team of data engineers and analysts (Germany, India, vendor partners), ensuring delivery quality, pipeline health, operational KPIs, and clear accountability. Maintain robust support and maintenance models for developed data products. Establish and oversee engineering practices – code quality standards, documentation, monitoring/observability, and data quality frameworks.
- Stakeholder Communication & Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the technical liaison between Business, BI&A, Tech@Lilly, and global platform teams – translating business requirements into technical designs and technical constraints into business language. Represent ASG in architecture forums, PI planning, and global program impact assessments; communicate risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to sponsors and program leadership. Drive structured resolution of cross-functional data issues (master data, finance/SAP consumption, reporting-layer dependencies). Provide structured feedback to global/IBU teams on gaps between local needs and global capabilities.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a data architect or technical lead on enterprise data platforms (cloud data warehousing, lakehouse/medallion architectures, ETL/ELT orchestration). Strong hands-on background with AWS data services (Glue, Step Functions, Redshift, S3, Lambda, IaC) and/or the Microsoft Fabric / Power BI ecosystem. Demonstrated ability to lead distributed engineering teams and coach engineers to independent delivery. Excellent stakeholder communication – able to present architecture and complex technical topics clearly to business sponsors and executives. Experience with agile delivery (Scrum), sprint-based planning, and engineering governance (code review standards, CI/CD, GitHub-based workflows).
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience in pharma/life sciences commercial data (HCP/HCO master data, consent management, sales data, territory structures). Familiarity with enterprise data governance, data product thinking, and validated/GxP-adjacent environments. Exposure to AI-assisted engineering tooling and emerging data-access patterns. Experience working across cultures and geographies.
