Job Overview
The Senior Engineer – Emerging Technologies, Innovation Technology and Deployment is responsible for the engineering development, scale‑up, and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies to support MSAT strategic pillars such as Continuous Manufacturing / Process Intensification (PI), Integrated Quality / Real‑Time Release (IQRTR), and future priorities. Key focus areas include design, integration, and industrialization of innovative process and analytical solutions within Biotherapeutics, driving improvements in yield, robustness, compliance, and operational efficiency across the value chain. Principal Responsibilities
Technology Development & Implementation – Partner with MSAT platforms, DPDS, and MTO to identify, evaluate, and implement emerging technologies into manufacturing environments. Design, execute, and/or coordinate PoP and PoC studies focusing on engineering feasibility, scalability, and integration into GMP processes. Drive equipment selection, process design, and system integration from laboratory to pilot and commercial scale. Engineering & Technical Leadership – Provide engineering expertise in automation, PAT integration, and process control systems supporting PI and IQRTR. Develop and implement robust process control strategies, including inline/online monitoring and advanced analytics. Support process scale‑up/down, equipment design, and digital modeling to predict and improve manufacturing performance. Translate scientific concepts into deployable engineering solutions and standardized platforms. Strategic Leadership – Contribute to and shape the engineering roadmap for PI and IQRTR technologies, identify high‑impact opportunities for technology deployment, drive standardization and platform approaches across sites. Knowledge Management & Technology Transfer – Build and maintain engineering know‑how, lead/support technology transfer and scale‑up activities, develop engineering standards, best practices, and technical documentation. Troubleshooting & Investigations – Lead and support complex technical investigations related to process performance, equipment, automation, and PAT systems; apply root‑cause analysis to resolve manufacturing and technology issues. People Leadership – Support onboarding, training, and mentoring of engineers, scientists, contractors, and students; lead cross‑functional teams in the execution of development and deployment activities. Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements
Strong engineering background with expertise in one or more: Bioprocess / Chemical Engineering / Pharmaceutical Engineering. Process design and scale‑up (DP or API manufacturing). Automation & digital systems (PLC, DCS, data infrastructure). Process Analytical Technology (PAT) integration. Advanced process control and modeling. Data analytics, statistics (DOE), and multivariate analysis. Experience with manufacturing technologies across small/large molecules, vaccines, or advanced therapies (preferred). Competency (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience)
Degree in Engineering or related discipline (Chemical, Bioprocess, Mechanical, Automation, or similar); Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. with relevant industry experience. Proven experience in process engineering, technology scale‑up, or manufacturing implementation. Experience in equipment design, automation systems, or process integration (preferred).Strong capability in technical problem‑solving, cross‑functional collaboration, and project execution. Experience in GMP environments, regulatory expectations, and technical documentation (advantageous). Ability to operate effectively in a global, matrix organization with multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills. Degree
Minimum: B.S./M.S. with 4–6 years relevant experience or Ph.D. with 0–2 years experience. Languages
Fluent in written and spoken English. Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Work in an international environment across time zones. Travel: up to 10%, project‑dependent.
