Your role and responsibilities

The Head of Communications at B&R, the Machine Automation Division of the ABB Group, is responsible for all internal and external communication activities, ensuring the company’s market leadership is effectively conveyed. This role involves developing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with business goals, collaborating with R&D and Sales to create targeted, multi-channel initiatives, managing media relations, and measuring communication success through KPIs. The role also includes coordinating with ABB’s central communication teams and overseeing a team of at least six people, including the current open position for “MR, PR and PA”.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Strategic Communication Planning & Advisory: Developing a 360° communication strategy to enhance B&R’s positioning, including thought leadership, executive engagement, internal change communication, and media relations. Managing crisis communication at a global level.
2. Customer-Centric Communication & Content Creation: Working with Marketing & Sales to execute targeted initiatives across digital channels, trade shows, and press, creating localized content, and ensuring high-profile media placements.
3. Executional Excellence & Performance Measurement: Ensuring quality in all communication efforts, monitoring media coverage, analyzing insights, and measuring success via KPIs. Supporting strategic partnerships and sponsorships.
4. Collaboration & Leadership: Leading and developing the global communications team, coordinating local efforts, building a content repository, and fostering relationships with media and industry influencers. Providing media training for executives and supporting internal leadership communication.

Qualifications for the role

• Master’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
• 12+ years of international public relations experience, preferably in a technology-focused industry, with leadership experience.
• Proven success in designing and executing media campaigns at various scales.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German (C2 proficiency).
• Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience as a company spokesperson.
• Proficiency in social media management, digital content creation, and event planning.
• Knowledge of digital media tools and project management.
• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, global organization with cross-cultural collaboration skills.
• Strong business acumen and adaptability to fast-paced environments.
