Strategy & Operations Associate

Strategy & Operations Associate

Zürich Vollzeit Kein Homeoffice möglich
Abbert Capital
Role Description The Strategy & Operations Associate is a full-time seat in the Office of the CEO, reporting to the COO (Zürich). The Associate can be based anywhere in Switzerland, with regular travel to Zürich and internationally, plus occasional multi-week on-site assignments at a client or counterparty location.
The seat is built around four workstreams in roughly equal measure: strategic and advisory project work alongside the senior partnership — memos, models, board pre‑reads, advisor briefs; the operational backbone that lets a three‑firm platform run as one team — project tracking, cadences, tooling, hiring support; strategy, intelligence, and country research across the Greater Caspian, MENA, and Eastern Europe; and support for the firm's private‑investment activity — target sourcing and screening, due diligence, investment‑committee materials, and portfolio / AUM reporting. Output is read by the CEO, by senior partners, and on occasion by the principal directly — and is held to the prose, source‑handling, and discretion the firm's practice requires.
Qualifications Investment banking or advisory experience (required): an analyst programme completed — or a first associate year underway — at an international investment bank, an M&A or restructuring boutique, or a comparable advisory platform, with genuine transaction execution behind you. Adjacent tracks (transaction services, private equity, restructuring advisory) are considered.
Target sourcing and screening:
ability to identify, qualify, and prioritise acquisition and investment targets against the firm's mandate — building and maintaining pipeline, preparing first‑pass screens, and framing what is worth the senior partnership's time.
Analysis and due diligence:
financial modelling and valuation to the standard an investment committee expects; commercial, counterparty, and reputational due diligence; the ability to run a data room, weigh competing and sometimes contradictory sources, and synthesise findings into a memo a senior partner can act on.
Capital deployment support:
experience preparing the materials on which capital decisions are made with IC pre‑reads, returns and scenario analysis, structuring memos and monitoring positions after deployment.
International and high‑stakes environments:
comfort in live, confidential, consequential work across time zones, jurisdictions, and cultures. You bridge cultures and languages and read between the lines; the subtext of a meeting, what a counterparty does not say. Working professional fluency in English is required; a working command of German, French, Russian, Turkish or Arabic is highly beneficial.
Geopolitical literacy:
a working read of how the power balance between states, blocs, and institutions is shifting, and what those trends mean for capital, counterparties, and the decisions in front of a principal‑led family.
AI fluency:
stays current with AI tooling and already uses it across research, modelling, and writing, while holding the output to the standard the firm's work requires.
Communication and client‑facing skills:
clear, structured written and spoken communication with global teams and senior counterparties; discretion, responsiveness, and professionalism in every interaction with partners and stakeholders.
Additional Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, international relations, or a related field; meaningful time lived, studied, or worked outside your home country; fluency with Excel, PowerPoint, and modern collaboration platforms assumed; familiarity with the firm's coverage sectors is welcome.
