Purpose of the Role
To design, engineer, implement, test, commission and maintain control automation and monitoring projects of varying sizes and types, based around BMS, PLC, SCADA and Power Monitoring/Metering Products.
Duties and responsibilities in this position are:
- Be responsible for interfacing between the bid team and the project delivery team. Provide input into Major Projects bid opportunities.
- Be responsible for the design, engineering, implementation and FAT testing – this will include third party equipment interface testing.
- Be responsible for supporting the on-site pre-commissioning and commissioning engineering team.
- Be responsible for providing support to the Maintenance / Services team for projects that you have delivered.
- Be responsible for ensuring that all design information is available, and that appropriate design documentation is completed, issued and approved.
- Maintain accurate and timely communication with the ABEC Project Manager and Engineering team.
- Ensure that all required drawings and factory / site test documentation packs are created, approved and ready for use.
- Be responsible for ensuring tasks are accurately recorded on timesheets and complete expense claims on time.
- Provide regular progress updates / engineer reports to project managers.
- Ensure that all issues / snags / delays are recorded and communicated to the project managers.
- Be responsible in ensuring work efficiency is maintained to complete tasks within, or ahead of, allocated time frames / schedule.
- Consider and review alternative engineering methods to improve quality and cost.
- Be responsible for ensuring standards of workmanship are of the highest quality.
- Ensure that all health and safety procedures and standards are followed on site. Report any concerns to the main contractor, end client and the ABEC project manager.
Results required for this position:
- Meet required project deadlines and raise any blockers to the project manager.
- Be a valued team player and be customer / contractor focused.
- All project design documentation is approved and signed. Copies are available on ABEC project folders.
- All drawings, in-house test and site commissioning documentation packs are approved and available for engineers to complete required testing. Copies are available on ABEC project folders.
- All maintenance activities are recorded, completed, and signed off.
- Timesheets and expenses completed accurately and issued on time.
- Support and mentor the project engineer teams.
- Provide required lead engineer support to the Project Manager.
- Support the sales and bid teams with new opportunities.
- Keep up to date with the latest SCADA / PLC / Metering / BMS software and hardware product knowledge.
- Suggest engineering methodologies / tools to the ABEC project manager and Engineering Manager (Major Projects) to improve quality, profit margins and cost savings.
- Provide quality customer service and support which leads to good customer feedback and ultimately more future work.

Knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position:
- Proven skills to design, engineer, implement, test, commission and maintain BMS / SCADA / PLC (Automation / Control / Monitoring) and Metering solutions.
- Excellent BMS / SCADA / PLC and metering system product (software and hardware) knowledge.
- Third Party supplier / distributor knowledge.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
- Ability to assist sales / bid teams with new project opportunities.

Experience which is needed for this position:
- Experience within the ‘Data Centre’ sector (BMS, PLC, SCADA & Power Monitoring/Metering).
- Experience in designing, engineering, implementing, testing, commissioning and maintaining BMS, PLC, SCADA & Power Monitoring/Metering systems.
- Experience in assisting with sales / bids of Major projects (Data Centres).
- Experience, knowledge and a good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
- Ability to read and understand building layout, panel and electrical / mechanical schematic drawings.
Other/special requirements for this position:
Be prepared to travel / stay away from home, both in the UK and abroad.
