(W3) Full Professor of Physiology (Systems Physiology) in Erlangen

Full Professor of Physiology (Systems Physiology) (salary group W3)

This is a full-time and permanent position planned to be filled by March 1, 2028. The professorship includes the position of Director of the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Physiology, and the applicant should be an internationally recognized leader in research and teaching in the field of physiology.

Responsibilities

• Candidates are expected to have an outstanding research record in systems physiology, preferably with a focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of renal and/or cardiovascular physiology.
• Collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine’s other research priorities is desired.
• The professorship should take an active role in shaping existing research networks and initiate the development of new interdisciplinary research consortia.
• Scientific excellence must be evidenced by internationally visible and high-quality publications as well as by repeated successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding.
• Candidates are also expected to have proven experience of management positions in research, such as several years of experience in leading research groups or comparable research structures.
• In teaching, candidates are expected to have the relevant experience and demonstrate innovative concepts in teaching the subject of systems physiology in the curriculum.
• Teaching is conducted mainly in German in the degree programs in Medicine, Dentistry, and Molecular Medicine.
• The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching.
• They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications).
• Evidence of a license to practice medicine in the field of physiology and/or certification as a specialist physiologist is desired.

Administrative Duties

• The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding.
