Civil Engineer - NYC Drainage, Stormwater & Sewer Infrastructure
Design Critical Infrastructure Projects Across New York City
Our team is seeking a Civil Engineer with experience in stormwater, drainage, sewer, and municipal infrastructure design to support a growing portfolio of waterfront, resiliency, and public infrastructure projects throughout NYC. This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working toward PE licensure or a licensed Professional Engineer looking to take on increasingly complex and impactful projects.
In this role, you'll work on the planning, modeling, design, and permitting of storm drainage and sanitary sewer systems, with exposure to waterfront infrastructure, coastal resiliency initiatives, and environmentally sensitive sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and combined sewer infrastructure systems for municipal and transportation-related projects
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses and develop stormwater management solutions
- Prepare engineering calculations, drainage reports, technical memoranda, and design documentation
- Support waterfront and coastal infrastructure projects involving outfalls, drainage conveyance systems, and resiliency improvements
- Assist with permitting and regulatory approvals involving local, state, and federal agencies
- Evaluate site constraints related to floodplains, wetlands, coastal zones, and environmentally sensitive areas
- Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents
- Coordinate with project managers, environmental scientists, surveyors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Participate in client meetings and agency coordination throughout project delivery
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in drainage, stormwater, sewer, or water resources engineering
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with Hydrocad, StormCAD, EPA SWMM, or similar hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software
- Strong understanding of stormwater management, drainage design, and sewer infrastructure systems
- Ability to prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and engineering analyses
- Experience working on municipal infrastructure projects
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT certification with active pursuit of PE licensure, or current PE license
- Experience with NYC DEP infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of SWPPP development, green infrastructure, or CSO mitigation projects
- Experience with waterfront infrastructure, outfall design, shoreline stabilization, or coastal resiliency projects
- Familiarity coordinating with agencies such as NYC DEP, NYSDEC, USACE, and local municipalities
- Project management or client-facing experience
