Overview

Job Title: Fire Protection Engineer

This role supports the National Institute of Health (NIH), contributing to initiatives that positively impact society. Responsibilities

  • Review architectural and engineering designs as well as fire protection system shop drawings for over 50 buildings.
  • Conduct construction inspections and issue final occupancy permits.
  • Witness acceptance tests for fire alarm and sprinkler system modifications.
  • Evaluate existing building conditions through life safety and hazard analysis surveys.
  • Provide technical guidance using various NFPA codes.

Qualifications

  • Essential Skills
  • PE license in fire protection with over 5 years of experience.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering (any discipline).
  • Experience with NFPA codes 30 & 35.
  • Proficiency in reviewing architectural, engineering, fire alarm, and fire sprinkler drawings.
  • Experience with IEC, Revit, AutoCAD, piping design, and plumbing design.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with other NFPA codes.
  • Experience mentoring or leading teams.
  • Experience working within a lab or hospital environment, especially with hazardous chemicals.
  • Experience with IEC codes.
  • Experience with stamping permits or egress systems.

Work Environment

Work at the NIH campus in Bethesda, overseeing roughly 50 buildings. Collaborate with a program manager and three other engineers while working closely with the fire marshal at NIH.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bethesda, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $64.90/hr.
