For our team in Berlin, we are looking for a Principal Engineer (d/f/m) – Marketplace. Our agile team is focused on the core services and capabilities of our platform. If you’re passionate about automotive and user-driven innovation, this is the team for you!
Reporting directly to your Engineering Manager, you will play an important role in the development and architecture of mobile.de’s central applications and capabilities and act at the level of the entire engineering organization.
This is a hybrid role, and our office is based in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
What you’ll do:

Define and lead the technical vision for core services and shared capabilities used across Product & Technology.

Lead complex projects that enhance the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of our technical landscape.

Collaborate with other principal engineers and platform architects to ensure agreement on technical and organizational strategies.

Mentor and coach engineers and tech leads, promoting skill development.

Implement and monitor engineering metrics.

Build relationships across teams to align technical solutions with our goals and organizational priorities.

Be an expert and technical leader, influencing engineering culture and shaping our technology direction.
Main Responsibilities

Design and oversee implementation of critical systems to ensure long-term value.

Plan and implement technical and architectural strategies for the engineering organisation.

Create Architecture Decision Records, communicate the decisions and monitor the execution.

Promote cloud-native solutions that meet cross-team needs.
-
Promote engineering excellence through coding standards, testing techniques, and CI/CD (GitHubActions, Jenkins).
-
Partner with platform architects to ensure central services integrate with platform infrastructure.
-
Represent the Core Services team in organization-wide discussions, balancing immediate needs with strategic goals.
Qualifications
-
Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align and collaborate across teams.

At least 10 years of industry experience.

Expertise in at least one JVM programming language and knowledge of Spring or React. Knowledge of Golang and JavaScript is beneficial.

In-depth experience with modern software architecture approaches and patterns.

Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, and infrastructure tools (e.g., Terraform, Helm).

Strong understanding of distributed systems, relational and document-oriented databases, and messaging systems.

Proven experience in implementing observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) for monitoring and reliability.

A proactive, independent, strategic, and collaborative attitude is required to be successful in this role.

Fluent in English; German is a bonus.
