Field Service Engineer

The Field Service Engineer installs, troubleshoots, maintains, and upgrades advanced semiconductor bonding equipment at customer sites across North America.

This hands‑on, customer‑facing role suits a technically strong professional who enjoys solving complex problems, documenting processes, and supporting high‑value production environments.

The position combines on‑site service, remote technical work, and close collaboration with global engineering and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair high‑precision bonding equipment at customer sites across North America.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and process‑related issues and implement effective corrective actions to restore equipment performance.
• Perform preventive maintenance, validation, and acceptance testing to ensure equipment reliability, uptime, and compliance with performance specifications.
• Provide timely remote and on‑site technical support to customers, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and professionally.
• Deliver user training on equipment operation, routine maintenance, and new features to help customers operate systems safely and effectively.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing teams to support service planning, cost estimates, parts availability, and technical solutions.
• Prepare accurate service documentation, including service reports, test reports, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and weekly activity reports.
• Recommend equipment upgrades and improvements, including solutions for component obsolescence and performance enhancements.
• Support demonstrations, application testing, and customer qualification activities as needed to showcase system capabilities.
• Contribute to building U. S. service processes, documentation, and operational standards as the organization expands its service presence in North America.

Essential Skills

• 5–10+ years of field service, maintenance, or technical support experience in semiconductor, medical device, automation, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in electromechanical systems, controls, and equipment diagnostics.
• Proven ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and service procedures.
• Hands‑on experience with installation, repair, and maintenance of complex equipment in production environments.
• Strong communication and customer‑facing skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and build trust.
• Ability to work independently in the field, manage priorities, and deliver high‑quality service with minimal supervision.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by car and air as required for customer visits and training.
• Experience creating documentation, SOPs, and service processes (highly valued).
• Collaborative mindset and interest in helping build long‑term service operations in the U. S.
• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Background in semiconductor, medical device, automation, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Experience supporting high‑value, high‑precision equipment in production or R&D settings.
• Comfort working with global engineering and operations teams across multiple time zones.
• Ability to contribute to continuous improvement of service processes and standards.
• Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, reporting, and follow‑up actions.

Work Environment

This role involves frequent travel to customer sites across North America, including overnight stays, with regular trips to Santa Rosa, CA and occasional travel to Phoenix, AZ.

International travel to France for training and knowledge updates typically occurs about once per year.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 40 hours per week on a day shift.

On average, about two weeks per month are spent on‑site at customer locations, with the remaining time dedicated to remote work such as documentation, reporting, and technical support from a home office or company office.

The environment centers on advanced semiconductor bonding equipment in production and engineering settings, requiring comfort working around high‑precision machinery and collaborating closely with customer engineering and operations teams.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Rosa, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $52.00/hr.
