Minerva Frontline is STARK’s command and control software, connecting operators with autonomous systems across multiple domains in real time. The Frontline team works across Europe and the UK in close collaboration with hardware teams to deliver mission-critical capabilities for active operational environments. We build and ship software for real users, often under constraints such as low-bandwidth networks, air-gapped devices and high-stakes decision cycles.

About The Role

STARK is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Frontend Systems, to help expand and evolve its mission management software. This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone who sees frontend development as systems engineering—not simply a sequence of tickets. You will shape a robust, high-performance frontend while considering how data, backend services and hardware constraints affect the overall system. You will translate complex data streams into calm, clear interfaces that support operators working under pressure. You will contribute to system design, challenge assumptions when they threaten performance or usability, and help the team use agentic AI development tools responsibly. The role combines rapid delivery with careful attention to architecture, quality and the needs of operators in the field.

Responsibilities

Design, build and maintain high-performance interfaces using Vanilla TypeScript or JavaScript and native web technologies, including the DOM API and Web Components. Engineer for real-world constraints by managing latency, data bursts, computational load and battery use on field devices. Build interfaces that remain reliable in low-bandwidth and air‑gapped environments. Transform complex information into immediate situational awareness. Apply sound UX judgment to reduce cognitive load and create deterministic, error-tolerant experiences that help operators make decisions under stress. Work closely with backend and hardware teams, providing constructive feedback on APIs, data structures and system behavior when these affect frontend performance or operator experience. Establish architectural guardrails for agentic AI workflows, validate generated code rigorously and address integration and quality challenges. Share knowledge, contribute to system evolution and support open, fact-based technical discussions. Travel as needed to support the work.

Qualifications

You bring substantial practical experience with Vanilla TypeScript or JavaScript and a strong understanding of the native web platform, including the DOM, event loop and memory management. You can reason about the frontend as a complex, stateful system connected to physical hardware, and make design decisions that account for latency, constrained compute and battery life. You have practical experience incorporating agent-based coding tools into engineering workflows and can structure, review and validate their output. You balance delivery speed with long-term system health, ask thoughtful questions about requirements and prioritize the operator’s perspective. You are collaborative, adaptable and low-ego, with the maturity to weigh alternatives and put the mission ahead of personal preference. Experience with native Web Component design systems, real-time streaming such as WebSockets or WebRTC, telemetry, GIS, mapping, Canvas or WebGL is advantageous. Experience with unmanned systems or command-and-control software is also welcome. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for this defence-sector position.
