About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Software Developer specializing in Modelling & Simulation to join our team within the "Modelling & Simulation Software Product Line" at Airbus Defence and Space GmbH in Immenstaad am Bodensee. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our proprietary simulation frameworks, which are vital for analyzing and optimizing complex systems of systems, including military platforms across land, air, sea, space, and cyber domains. Your work will support leading defense programs and related studies by implementing sophisticated simulation architectures that facilitate early-stage design decisions and operational assessments.

This position offers an opportunity to work in an international environment characterized by cross-disciplinary collaboration with internal teams, external stakeholders, including clients and research partners such as universities and research institutes. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a successfully completed university degree (Bachelor or Master) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. You should possess at least 2-3 years of practical experience in software development, particularly within simulation environments and complex system modeling. Proficiency in C++, ideally in versions C++11, C++14, or newer, is essential, along with familiarity with relevant libraries such as Qt for GUI development, OpenGL, and OpenSceneGraph. Knowledge of agile development methodologies like Scrum, along with experience using tools such as JIRA and Confluence, will be advantageous.

Additional skills include experience with version control systems like GitHub or GitLab, familiarity with 3D modeling, game engines such as Unity3D, and open-source libraries like NumPy and OpenCV. Fluency in German (C2 level) and English (B2 level) is required for effective communication within international teams and with stakeholders. For more advanced responsibilities, candidates should demonstrate a solid track record of managing project scope, timelines, and budgets, along with the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Participate as a key member of an agile project team developing simulation-based studies and research initiatives, enhancing our in-house simulation tools with new capabilities such as additional models and interfaces.
• Translate user and system requirements into functional simulation modules, ensuring accurate representation of military systems across various domains.
• Implement and extend military simulations in C++ for land, air, sea, space, and cyber environments, adhering to project specifications and quality standards.
• Support project managers in preparing client presentations and technical discussions, conveying complex simulation concepts clearly and effectively.
• Design and develop interfaces to integrate external hardware and software systems into our simulation frameworks, ensuring seamless interoperability.
• Assist in preparing proposals and quotations for new work packages, defining scope, timelines, and costs.
• Collaborate with research and industrial partners, including universities and research institutes, to validate simulation models and conduct practical testing and evaluation.

Additional responsibilities, when aligned with experience, include leading simulation projects, overseeing work package delivery, engaging in technical exchanges with industry and academia, and contributing to the continuous improvement of simulation methodologies and tools.
