AI Futures has been engaged to find a Senior AI Specialist for one of Europe’s largest insurance groups - a company transforming its core business through AI at scale, with a data and ML platform that serves hundreds of engineers and actuaries across health, property, life, and commercial lines.

The company

A major European insurer with a mature and growing AI function - an organisation that has already committed to it and is now building the infrastructure to make it work at enterprise scale. The internal AI platform serves over 300 ML engineers and actuaries across multiple lines of business, from underwriting automation and claims processing to voice AI in telephony and beyond. This is a company where AI infrastructure has genuine leverage on the core business.

The role

You will be part of the team that builds and operates the platform other AI engineers build on. Your internal customers are technically excellent people - your job is to make them faster, remove friction from their daily work, and ensure the infrastructure underneath them is reliable, scalable, and easy to use. This is not a model-building role. It is the role that makes model-building possible at scale.

You will identify cross-use-case patterns and turn them into reusable platform components, self-service tooling, and clean developer experiences - APIs, CLIs, CI pipelines - so that 300+ engineers can move from idea to production without asking for help every step of the way.

What you’ll do

  • Build and operate the AI and data platform that internal engineering teams and actuaries rely on to ship use cases into production - reliably, repeatedly, at scale
  • Identify recurring patterns across AI projects and abstract them into reusable infrastructure components and self-service tooling
  • Design and maintain developer experience: clean APIs, CLI tooling, CI as a service, and ephemeral environments for coding agents and agentic engineering workflows
  • Own operational reliability - monitoring, alerting, automation, and continuous improvement of platform systems
  • Shape the direction of the platform: agentic engineering infrastructure, analytics platform development, GitHub Actions-based CI/CD, and AI tooling for the broader engineering community
  • Advise internal stakeholders on AI architecture, platform standards, and technical risk - translating complex topics into accessible guidance
  • Conduct technical risk assessments and develop standards for how AI systems - LLMs, agentic systems, and classical ML - are built and governed across the organisation

What you’ll bring

  • A background in DevOps, SRE, cloud engineering, or AI/ML platform engineering - you know how to build things that other engineers depend on
  • Cloud platform experience on AWS: container orchestration with Kubernetes or OpenShift, Helm, ArgoCD, and related tooling
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), and Git as daily practice
  • Strong Python and the ability to build services, automation, and internal tooling on top of it - REST APIs, databases, and scripted workflows
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs, agentic AI systems, or AI workflow orchestration
  • Experience advising technical stakeholders, developing architecture concepts, and driving standardisation across a complex engineering organisation
  • Clean code habits: testing, code review, documentation, and sustainable software development as non-negotiables
  • Prior experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry - understanding of actuarial workflows, claims systems, or underwriting platforms is a real advantage
  • Familiarity with agentic engineering frameworks - LangChain, LangGraph, ADK, or equivalent
  • Experience building internal developer platforms or platform engineering functions from the ground up
  • Competitive base salary + 13.5 month structure + occupational pension
  • 30 days holiday + Christmas and New Year
  • 60% remote/hybrid - NRW-based
