Position Overview
This opportunity is for a Quality Control Inspector Coating / Corrosion Protection to support critical site-based inspection and quality activities within an industrial project environment.
The Quality Control Inspector Coating / Corrosion Protection will play a key role in ensuring coating, surface preparation and corrosion protection works are delivered in line with applicable standards, specifications and quality expectations.
This position offers strong technical scope for a Quality Control Inspector Coating / Corrosion Protection with proven inspection expertise, documentation capability and the confidence to work closely with contractors, project teams and third‑party inspectors.
Role Context
This role is based in Brunsbüttel and sits within an industrial project environment involving coating and corrosion protection activities on site.
The position supports construction and quality functions and interfaces with contractors, subcontractors, customers and third‑party inspectors.
Experience from industrial, chemical, petrochemical, energy or tank farm projects is particularly relevant.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and monitor the project‑specific quality management plan for corrosion protection, surface preparation and coating activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and customer requirements, including ISO 12944, DIN EN ISO 8501, DIN EN ISO 8502, DIN EN ISO 8503 and DIN EN ISO 19840.
- Supervise and document all surface preparation and coating work carried out on site.
- Carry out inspections and acceptance tests before, during and after the application of coating systems.
- Verify surface cleanliness, roughness, climatic conditions and wet and dry film thicknesses.
- Execute or oversee adhesion strength testing, holiday testing and other quality‑related inspections.
- Create, review and approve Inspection & Test Plans, test protocols, non‑conformance reports and quality documentation.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor activities in relation to quality, safety and compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare weekly quality reports for construction management and project management.
- Review material certificates, coating approvals and manufacturer documentation, and support final quality dossier completion.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- FROSIO Inspector Level II or higher, and/or AMPP/NACE Certified Coatings Inspector Level 2.
- Degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a comparable qualification such as technician, master craftsman or specialist with relevant professional experience.
- Several years of experience in quality assurance and quality control of coating and corrosion protection work in industrial, chemical, petrochemical, energy or tank farm projects.
- Strong knowledge of DIN EN ISO 12944, DIN EN ISO 8501 / 8502 / 8503, DIN EN ISO 19840, as well as SSPC / AMPP standards and customer standards used in chemical and petrochemical environments.
- Experience performing and evaluating surface cleanliness testing, roughness measurements, climate measurements, wet and dry film thickness measurements, adhesion tensile testing and holiday testing.
- Experience across new build, maintenance and turnaround project environments.
- Very good written and spoken German and good written and spoken English.
- Confident use of MS Office and experience with quality management systems and electronic documentation systems.
- High level of personal responsibility, strong communication skills and the ability to work with confidence across site stakeholders.
Desirable
- Experience in refinery, tank terminal, LNG, chemical or hydrogen projects.
- Coating manufacturer certifications such as International Paint, Hempel, Jotun, PPG or equivalent.
- SCC certification.
- ISO 9001 Auditor qualification.
