The university is committed to the goal of creating a family-friendly university.Lab Manager (f/m/d) in the Environmental Geochemistry LaboratoryThe Department of Applied Geochemistry is looking for a Lab Manager (f/m/d) in the Environmental Geochemistry LaboratoryWe're looking for a motivated person from a technical or scientific background to join the new Applied Geochemistry lab and share our passion for experimental environmental geochemistry and interdisciplinary research.Our group investigates key issues in applied geochemistry, with a focus on pollutant behaviour, groundwater protection, and element cycling. We specialize in investigating the behavior of inorganic pollutants and nutrients and their interactions with minerals.
By integrating biogeochemical, mineralogical, and hydrogeochemical perspectives with cutting-edge analytical techniques, we connect fundamental research with innovative strategies for safeguarding natural resources.Your tasksAs a laboratory manager, you will play a key role in the Applied Geochemistry Laboratory, overseeing its establishment, ongoing development, and seamless operation. A core analytical instrument in our laboratory will be a new LC-ICP-MS, used for quantifying elemental species at trace levels. The laboratory infrastructure also includes an IC, AAS, UV/VIS, XRD, TOC, SEM, and a Mössbauer spectrometer.
Your responsibilities will also include:Laboratory organization & administration – You will oversee maintenance, procurement, and safety management to ensure smooth operations.Training of lab users – You will guide and assist staff and students in using laboratory equipment and conducting experiments.Technical development & method optimization – In collaboration with doctoral students and postdocs, you will develop technical solutions and refine ICP-MS methods.Research support – You will contribute to ongoing research projects, both in the lab and in the field, and independently conduct sampling and measurements.Teaching support – You will assist in organizing and conducting field and laboratory practicals.Your profileYou enjoy working in an international environment and are excited to take on a wide range of tasks. With a hands-on attitude, you seek out solutions and have a keen sense for efficiently organizing laboratory processes. You're motivated to help shape a new laboratory and tackle both routine and more complex challenges.You also bring:At least a bachelor's or university degree (FH) in environmental sciences, geosciences, chemistry or a related field, or a comparable professional qualification.Solid theoretical and practical expertise in water or environmental analysis.Openness to and enthusiasm for innovative technologies, with a willingness to learn new topics.A good understanding of technical and environmental chemistry.A careful, reliable, and precise working style.Very good knowledge of German (at least C1 level) and good knowledge of English (at least B2 level).Strong teamwork skills and intercultural competence.Our offerYou can look forward to an exciting and diverse role within an inspiring team that fosters creativity and values open, respectful communication.
