We are working with an innovative and rapidly growing global technology firm that is looking to hire an experienced General Counsel to join their leadership team in Germany. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the legal function of a cutting-edge tech company and play a pivotal role in driving the company’s growth, compliance, and legal strategy as they expand their presence in Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Legal Leadership:

1. Act as the primary legal advisor to the executive team, advising on a wide range of legal issues including corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, intellectual property, and commercial contracts.
2. Develop and execute the company’s overall legal strategy, supporting business objectives while mitigating legal risks.
3. Work closely with senior leadership to ensure that legal considerations are integrated into business decisions and operations.

Compliance & Risk Management:

1. Ensure the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations across Germany and the European Union, including data privacy laws like GDPR, IP protection, and regulatory compliance.
2. Oversee risk management activities, including the identification of legal risks and the development of policies to address and minimise exposure.

Contract Negotiations & Management:

1. Lead the negotiation and drafting of key contracts, including supplier agreements, customer contracts, and strategic partnerships, ensuring that terms align with the company’s goals and legal requirements.
2. Provide guidance on legal aspects of business operations, including tech licensing, IP agreements, and regulatory matters.

Corporate Governance & Litigation Management:

1. Provide strategic advice on corporate governance, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
2. Oversee and manage external counsel on any litigation matters, ensuring timely and effective resolution of disputes.
3. Lead and mentor a growing legal team, fostering a culture of collaboration and development.
4. Work cross-functionally with teams in HR, finance, and product development to provide legal support and advice as needed.

Key Qualifications:

1. Education: Law degree (German state examination or equivalent qualification), ideally with a focus on technology, IP, or corporate law.
2. Experience:
3. Strong expertise in any of the following – German corporate law, data protection (GDPR), intellectual property, contract law, and M&A law.
4. Proven track record of managing complex legal issues at a senior level and contributing to the strategic direction of a business.
5. Skills:
6. Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a strategic and solutions-oriented approach.
8. Fluent in both English and German (written and spoken), with a deep understanding of legal and business practices in Germany and Europe.
