We’re working with a venture-backed defence technology start-up that is building a highly complex hardware capability from the ground up. The business is transitioning from early-stage engineering into a critical phase of scale, including the development of a new production facility and the expansion of engineering and operational teams.
We are looking for a Propulsion Engineer to design, develop, and test the solid rocket motors used on our orbital launch vehicle. This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full motor development cycle, from preliminary design through static fire testing and night qualification. You will be part of the project team delivering an orbital class launch vehide.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop solid rocket motors from preliminary design through detailed design, manufacturing readiness, static test, and night qualification
- Develop or extend analysis and simulation tools (ballistic simulation, structural sizing, performance prediction) as required to support design work Translate vehicle-level performance requirements (total impulse, burn time, thrust profile, mass fraction) into motor-level design specifications Feed real motor performance data back into vehicle-level design and sizing tools
- Define and own the verification and validation approach for motor development, including analysis, subscale/component testing, and static fire test planning Plan, execute, and support static fire test campaigns, including instrumentation requirements and post-test data analysis
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience from job experience or rocketery clubs in solid rocket motor design and development, covering some or all of: internal ballistics, grain design, nozzle design, and motor case design
- Working knowledge of pressure vessel and composite structural design principles
- Proficiency in Python or similar for building and maintaining engineering analysis tools Experience defining or executing verification and validation plans for propulsion hardware
- Ability to work independently and take ownership Of technical decisions in a small-team, early-stage environment
