Junior Project Controller

Alpine Business Consulting
Alpine Business Consulting works with organizations that have grown tired of broken reporting systems and unreliable data. Many companies spend years and significant budgets on enterprise performance management tools only to end up with numbers that do not align and finance teams that spend all their time in manual spreadsheets. We step in to clean up these configurations, build a single source of truth, and ensure that internal teams actually know how to use their systems once we are gone.
Currently, our team is supporting a major logistics partner with a comprehensive overhaul of their tracking and reporting systems. This engagement involves complex resource planning and financial monitoring to ensure the project remains on track and profitable. We are looking for a Junior Project Controller to join this project and take responsibility for the daily financial and administrative health of our consulting engagements.
The role
In this role, you will work closely with our senior consultants and project managers to monitor the progress of our current logistics project. Your focus will be on the numbers behind the work. This is an entry level position designed for someone who is organized, enjoys working with data, and wants to understand how large scale consulting projects are managed from a financial perspective. Because Alpine Business Consulting operates on a fully remote basis, you will need to be comfortable communicating through digital tools and managing your own schedule effectively.
You will act as a support layer for the project team, ensuring that time entries are accurate, budgets are respected, and the client receives clear, honest reporting on our progress. Since we often work on a fixed price basis, your ability to track actual work against our initial estimates is vital to our transparency and predictability.
What you will do
  • Monitor project budgets and track actual hours worked against planned allocations.
  • Assist in preparing monthly project status reports for the logistics partner, focusing on financial health and resource utilization.
  • Verify the accuracy of internal time tracking and ensure all data is correctly categorized for billing.
  • Help maintain project documentation and configuration guides, ensuring they are organized and accessible to the client.
  • Assist senior consultants in creating financial models or forecasts for new project phases.
  • Coordinate with the internal finance team to process invoices and track payment milestones.
  • Identify potential budget overruns early and flag them to project leadership.
  • Support the handover process by compiling final project costs and performance data for client review.
What we need from you
  • A recent degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including familiarity with formulas, tables, and data organization.
  • A high level of attention to detail and a preference for accuracy over speed.
  • Strong communication skills, specifically the ability to explain financial data in plain English.
  • The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment without constant supervision.
  • A curious mindset and a willingness to learn about enterprise performance management systems.
  • Solid organizational skills, especially when handling multiple spreadsheets or documents at once.
Helpful background
  • Previous internship experience in an office environment or a project coordination role.
  • Familiarity with project management software or basic accounting tools.
  • Experience working in a remote setting or using digital collaboration platforms like Slack and Zoom.
  • An interest in how logistics and supply chain companies manage their internal financial data.
What we offer
Working at Alpine Business Consulting means joining a team that values real-world experience and direct communication. You will not be treated as a number in a large corporate machine. Instead, you will work directly with senior professionals who have spent decades fixing complex systems. This position is a permanent, full-time role and is paid a competitive salary that is attractive for an entry level professional in this market. We provide a fully remote work model that allows for flexibility while maintaining a professional standard of delivery. You will gain exposure to how major logistics operations function and how enterprise software is correctly configured to provide value.
We believe in giving our junior staff real responsibilities. You will contribute to actual project outcomes and help build the documentation that ensures our clients remain independent and successful long after our engagement ends. We focus on clean data and honest results, and we expect the same from every member of our team.
