Overview
As Engineering Director, you lead the Wayside Engineering department to ensure on-time, within-budget, and quality-compliant deliverables for rail projects. You drive stakeholder interfaces, site strategy, and continuous improvements while coordinating with global engineering teams. This role shapes engineering direction, risk management, and cost optimization across multi-site operations. You’ll work in a diverse, multinational environment to advance digitization and safe, efficient rail solutions.
Verantwortungsbereiche
- Overall responsibility for the Wayside Engineering department
- Manage interfaces with stakeholders inside and outside Engineering Wayside
- Contribute to site strategy development and execution
- Drive continuous improvements in products, processes, collaboration, and ways of working
- Ensure timely, quality-compliant engineering deliverables from tender to services
- Provide transparent reporting to Site Managing Director and Global Engineering platform
- Lead local engineering organization and coordinate with Development Center and other engineering groups
- Accountable for engineering tender commitments, project and R&D performance (QCD)
- Optimize site engineering workload and resource allocation
- Ensure Ethics and Compliance adherence and EHS practices implementation
- Oversee people and resource management within the engineering organization
- Maintain engineering processes, tools, and methods; monitor KPIs
- Oversee key technical decisions and safety-critical topics
- Support cost optimization programs and to-cost execution
- Own engineering cost center, including budgeting and control
- Promote innovation initiatives and ongoing people development programs
Zentrale Anforderungen
- Master’s degree in Engineering or comparable qualification
- Minimum 10 years of management experience in the railway industry
- Experience in work package management and risk/opportunity management
- In-depth knowledge of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies
- Strong technical decision-making with value analysis methodologies
- Experience in defining and implementing engineering strategies and vision
- Proven expertise in engineering planning and resource coordination
- Strong team management with cross-site and cross-functional leadership experience
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong results orientation
- International experience in multinational environments and diverse business cultures
- Fluent in English; German proficiency is a strong asset
