Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Operations Manager to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team in Berlin.

The Data Center Manager is the leadership role for our compute operations teams within an AWS region. They will have managerial responsibility for safety, security, availability, scaling, costs, and efficiency for their department. They lead the team that installs, maintains, and de‑commissioning network and server equipment in a safe, secure, and cost‑effective manner across the region. The Data Center Operations Manager must manage across each function and also have the ability to dive deep into any given function as needed.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of Data Center Technicians that install, maintain, and de‑commission network and server hardware.
  • Oversee the safety, security, availability, quality, and performance of the team while driving a positive customer experience.
  • Strategic planning and forecasting; manage team and individual performance; deliver performance reviews and address staffing needs.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.
  • Mentor, train, and develop career progression for direct reports and members of the organization.
  • Coordinate shift work among the team and ensure 24‑hour coverage availability for our data centers.
  • Maintain on‑call duties.
  • Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft‑skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective.
  • Coordinate support of change‑management resources in partnership with electrical and mechanical operations teams.
  • Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the region and with peers globally.

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of data center infrastructure design, operations, or delivery.
  • Experience using English communication skills, both written and verbal, to foster seamless interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
  • 2+ years of experience as a people manager in a technical environment, preferably managing operational teams in a 24x7 environment.
  • Experience with change management and fault management processes.
  • This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing large teams across multiple locations and languages.
  • Understanding of LSE/CSE (Large/Critical Scale Event) response processes and escalation management.
  • Experience with safety compliance programs and driving safety culture in operational environments.
  • Knowledge of physical security protocols including access control, alarm response, and media handling.
  • Experience with operational metrics, SLA management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Understanding of critical electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems in data center environments.
  • Experience operating in regulated or sovereign cloud environments.
  • Valid EU driving license (regular travel between sites required).
