Be a Key Player in Engineering and Imaging
In this exciting role, you will be a key contributor within our R&D organization and a leading member of a product development project.
You will play a central role in shaping and delivering new, innovative endoscopy solutions, directly contributing to Ambu’s future success and to improved outcomes for patients and healthcare professionals.
As part of this position, you will take ownership of the development of our next‑generation display unit.
This solution will not only support our current portfolio of endoscopy products but also serve as a foundation for future platforms and product offerings.
The position is open to candidates based in either our headquarters in Ballerup, Denmark or our development site in Augsburg, Germany.

You will be joining a truly global Systems Engineering team of around 20 highly skilled and motivated colleagues based in different locations.
The team is part of Engineering & Imaging within our R&D organization and brings together a great mix of backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise.

Senior Systems Engineer/Technical Lead you will hold the overall high level technical view and help the subject matter experts, team members and relevant stakeholders understand each other and collaborate together.
You will act as the Technical Lead in our larger, more complex new development projects, driving and owning the technical solution and making decisions on compromises when needed.
You will also create, facilitate, and review product documentation such as requirements, design inputs, design outputs and technical reviews, and promote the right level of documentation toward stakeholders.
You will be involved in all phases of the product development process—from the initial scope investigation, through conceptual design to product validation and market launch.
We work in a hybrid setup, typically with three days on‑site in either Augsburg or Ballerup, giving you flexibility while keeping strong team connections.
- Your Responsibilities
- Define, plan, document and technically manage product development activities within a new development project to ensure the product is delivered in accordance with design objectives and the development plan.
- Identify and understand stakeholder and user needs through engagement with key stakeholders.
- Analyze and decompose user needs, business needs, and system requirements into product requirements, including design control and development requirements.
- Build and lead the technical team in coordination with the Project Manager and Line Managers.
- Follow, align and reuse product architecture and design solutions within the R&D organization.
- Investigate, scope and develop new products within existing or new clinical areas for Ambu based on our technology and capabilities.
- Establish and maintain the technical overview, including interfaces and compromises between technologies.
- Mentor and guide other members of the Systems Engineering team.
- Work, document and test according to FDA and ISO requirements.

Skills
- A background in electrical engineering, mechatronics, mechanical engineering, or a similar field, with around 5–10 years of hands‑on experience in hardware development.
- Experience leading projects or teams, formally or informally, and a strong sense of ownership as a technical lead.
- A solid understanding of relevant standards for medical electrical equipment (IEC 60601‑1, 60601‑2‑18, ISO 80601‑2‑18, etc.) and how to apply them in practice.
- Experience developing medical devices, including work with design control and requirements in a regulated environment.
- Experience in product development within cross‑functional teams integrating hardware, electronics, mechanics, and software, ideally within the medical device field or a related consultancy environment.
- A systems engineering mindset combined with a practical approach to creating robust, reliable designs and getting things right the first time.
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks while staying pragmatic and solution‑oriented, enjoying knowledge sharing and collaboration within a global team.
- Comfort with travel—approximately 25 days per year, with visits to production sites in Malaysia, China, USA and Mexico and collaboration across Europe, Asia and the US.
