Network Engineer

Languages Required: German & French is Mandatory

Remote/Onsite/Hybrid: 5 days onsite at customer place

A network engineer for Google Distributed Cloud is a specialist within Google Cloud who designs, implements, and manages the network infrastructure for Google’s Distributed Cloud platform, focusing on ensuring connectivity, performance, and security across geographically dispersed edge locations. This role requires expertise in configuring and troubleshooting network components within a distributed environment, including VPCs, routing, load balancing, and security groups, while understanding the unique challenges of edge computing and latency-sensitive applications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Designing network architectures: Creating robust and scalable network designs for Distributed Cloud deployments, considering geographical distribution, latency optimization, and data locality.
2. Managing edge network connectivity: Ensuring seamless integration between on-premises networks and Google Distributed Cloud edge locations, utilizing technologies like Cloud Interconnect or VPNs.
3. Performance optimization: Monitoring network performance metrics and troubleshooting issues related to latency, packet loss, and bandwidth limitations in distributed environments.
4. Security configuration: Implementing security best practices within the Distributed Cloud network, including access controls, encryption, and intrusion detection.
5. Troubleshooting complex network issues: Diagnosing and resolving network problems across geographically dispersed locations, collaborating with other engineering teams as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

• Deep understanding of network protocols (BGP, MPLS, OSPF)
• Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Terraform)
• Knowledge of edge computing concepts and challenges
• Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
