About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Failure Analysis Engineer – Mechanical to lead root-cause investigation of returned products (RMA), focused on mechanical, structural, and materials failures across our global portfolio. You'll turn complex failure diagnosis into concrete improvements in design, manufacturing, and component quality — while helping build our AI-enabled failure analysis knowledge base.
What You'll Do
Failure Analysis & Root Cause
- Own RMA failure analysis from diagnosis through root-cause identification and closure.
- Perform product teardown and component-level diagnostics across design, manufacturing, assembly, materials, sealing, and environmental/usage failures.
- Apply dimensional/tolerance analysis, stress/fatigue analysis, leak/sealing testing, fracture analysis, metallography, NDT, and SEM/EDS.
- Use structured methods (8D, 5 Whys, FTA, Fishbone, DOE) to distinguish design vs. manufacturing vs. material vs. usage causes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality globally to drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Present findings clearly in recurring technical reviews with distributed teams.
Documentation & AI Enablement
- Produce standardized English failure analysis reports; build failure case libraries and root-cause databases.
- Support AI-enabled diagnostic tools by translating failure expertise into structured rules.
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor's in Mechanical/Materials Engineering (Master's preferred).
- 5+ years in mechanical/structural/materials failure analysis, reliability, or product quality.
- Hands-on experience with SEM/EDS, metallography, mechanical testing, NDT, dimensional inspection, leak/sealing testing.
- Strong command of failure mechanisms (fracture, fatigue, wear, degradation, tolerance issues) and manufacturing processes.
- Experience writing 8D reports and managing CAPA to closure.
- Strong English technical writing; ability to collaborate across global teams.
- Mandarin Chinese proficiency required — close collaboration with R&D and Quality teams in China.
Preferred
- Failure analysis experience in consumer electronics, IoT, robotics, or high-volume products.
- Experience applying AI/ML or knowledge systems to engineering workflows.
- Cross-functional leadership or mentoring experience.
