Summary / Role Purpose

The Senior R&D Engineer (m/f/d) is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.

The Senior R&D Engineer will contribute to the development of a new web-based, collaborative systems engineering solution extending Ansys’ Medini, Digital Safety Manager and System Architect Modeler product lines. This work will be based on an innovative modeling framework, modern web technologies, micro-services and integrations with Ansys’ core products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Participates in planning, architecture, and research.
2. Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research.
3. Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring.
4. Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
5. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions.
6. Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
7. Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities.
8. May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

1. BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience.
2. Commercial experience with software design and development methodologies.
3. Working proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

1. Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience are required in Java, web development, object-oriented modeling and design, software configuration management, scripting languages, data structures and algorithms.
2. Knowledge of Eclipse as a development platform, Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF).
3. Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) or system safety analysis methods and algorithms is a plus.
4. Deep understanding and practical experience in test driven development and continuous delivery.
5. Passion for crafting robust and efficient code.
6. Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment.
7. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed and international team using English as its primary language.
