The Opportunity
We’re seeking a skilled Industrial Designer with strong touchpoints to Mechanical Engineering to join our team of robotic experts. At our company, we specialize in developing tailored solutions that enable our robots to execute inspection and maintenance tasks with precision and consistency. As an Industrial Designer, you’ll be responsible for achieving a seamless human-machine interaction between our robots and their operators as well as for the general aesthetics of our products. In this sense, your role will be instrumental in achieving a satisfactory user experience for our robots.

ANYbotics transforms industrial plants in the energy, process, and utility sector by introducing robotics to a wide range of novel applications that so far were beyond reach. Our customers are large asset operators and industrial service providers pioneering the use of robotics technology for inspection and maintenance. Our mobile robot ANYmal uses legs for extreme mobility in complex environments, camera- and LIDAR-based sensing for full autonomy and obstacle avoidance, and AI for high-quality and consistent inspection results. We develop numerous customized hardware systems, including the entire robotic platform, actuators, sensors, inspection payloads, charging systems, and all related ANYbotics mechanical hardware.
Your Contributions
- Envision and create concepts for human-machine interaction of our robots, ensuring ease of use, repair and maintenance and general adherence to user experience-related product requirements
- Responsible for the overall aesthetics of our products, including design of enclosures and exterior protective surfaces
- Strongly contribute to mechatronics-oriented projects aimed at leaping forward the scalability, reliability and performance of our robotic systems while simultaneously reducing production costs
- Incorporate design for manufacturing approaches into our systems and collaborate with production experts to de-risk material selection and manufacturing aspects of the solutions early on the technology and product development process
- Support a culture of fast learning and de-risking of new technologies while continuously finding creative ways to speed up the development process
- Analyze data to derive concrete design choices related to the ease of use of the product
- Collaborate closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to simplify the integration of various systems such as connectors, cables and PCBA’s considering cooling, mechanical integration and protection from environmental factors
Your Profile
- Extensive experience with a proven track record in industrial design with focus on human-machine interactions and class A surface modeling using SolidWorks
- Experience with design of low-cost, production-level complex machined and injection molded parts using SolidWorks, including the associated stress calculations using FEA
- Solid ability to verify and troubleshoot mechanical systems with a hands-on approach
- Experience using DIN/ISO tolerance norms for technical documentation
- Experience with modeling of mechanical load cases
- Good command of English both written and spoken
Bonus Points
- Bachelor or Master’s degree from a University or University of Applied Sciences
- Previous experience with robotics or complex mechatronic systems
- Python and/or ROS / ROS2 knowledge
- Touchpoints with electrical engineering
