The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF in Jena conducts application-oriented research in optical systems-engineering on behalf of industry and within the framework of publicly funded joint projects. The services offered by Fraunhofer IOF include system solutions, ranging from new design concepts, the development of new technologies, manufacturing, and measurement processes, to the construction of prototypes and pilot series in the wavelength range from millimeters to nanometers.
The department »Opto-mechatronical Components and Systems« develops technologies for assembling and integrating complex, miniaturized and highly functional optical systems. Core activities are investigations on adjustment and joining technologies, the prototypical assembly of complex systems and the provision of special equipment for this purpose, as well as the application of printing technologies for system integration.

What you will do
In the department "Opto-mechatronical Components and Systems" you will work on versatile research projects such as quantum hardware, microassembly, and assembly technologies for micro-optical systems or 3D printing of optical elements. What you bring to the table
- You are currently pursuing a university degree in (technical) physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science, or a in a related field of study
- Good command of written and spoken German and English
- Flexibility, ability to work in a team as well as independently Friendly and open manner

Depending on the employment, remuneration is based on the general company agreement on the employment of student staff or on intern remuneration. The position is limited in time. The weekly working time for an internship and for the preparation of a thesis is 39 hours; for student assistantships it is agreed upon individually.
