The Fraunhofer – Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF in Jena conducts applied research in the field of photonics and develops innovative optical systems to control light – from its generation and manipulation to its application. The services offered by the institute cover the entire photonic process chain ranging from opto-mechanical and opto-electronical system design to the manufacturing of customer-specific solutions and prototypes.

The department »Opto-mechatronical Components and Systems« deals with technologies for assembling and integrating complex, miniaturized and highly functional optical systems. The focus of activities lies on investigating adjustment and joining technologies, the prototypical assembly of complex systems and the provision of special equipment for this purpose, as well as the application of printing technologies for system integration.

What you will do

In the department »Opto-mechatronical Components and Systems« you will work on a wide range of research projects such as quantum hardware, micro-assembly and assembly technologies for micro- and laser-optical systems or 3D printing of optical elements.

What you bring to the table

  • Completed scientific university degree with or without doctorate in the field of (technical) physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials science or a comparable degree in a related field of study
  • Graduates with knowledge in the above-mentioned research area are equally welcome to apply as well as professionals with (profound) subject-specific expertise
  • Good command of written and spoken German and English
  • Flexibility, ability to work in a team as well as independently
