About us:
We are arx anima, an animation studio based in Vienna, Frankfurt, Leipzig & Madrid and have been producing animation cinema productions for years. We also have the courage to try every new technical challenge and innovation.
Be it pioneering in lighting with Houdini Solaris / USD workflows, the realisation of a high-end MoCap studio, or the construction of the largest render farm in Austria. And besides all the R&D, features, and series we love to work on creatively animated commercials and other service work.
Responsibilities:
- Create and develop shading networks to achieve the desired visual style.
- Create and refine painted textures to be used on those shading networks for a variety of assets, from characters, wardrobes, props to environments.
- Create and refine procedural textures to be used on those shading networks to be mixed with painted/rasterised images.
- Ensure that assets maintain visual consistency with the project’s artistic direction.
- Ensure that shading networks and textures are efficient, maintaining the balance between visual look and performance.
- Collaborate with the lighting team to ensure that shading networks materials respond as expected in all lighting conditions needed for the project.
- Troubleshoot technical and aesthetic issues with materials, ensuring compatibility across the project.
- Bring the artistic direction vision to life and ensure all assets look polished and cohesive in the final film.
Qualifications:
- Candidates will ideally have at least 3 years on a full CG feature film or comparable experience.
- Strong artistic skills as presented in portfolio/showreel, on texturing or shading tasks.
- Strong Look Dev skills (both artistically and technically), with an excellent understanding of physically based shading & rendering.
- Initiative and problem-solving skills to work efficiently and reach deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to come up with creative, efficient solutions for a wide variety of assets.
- Experience with Houdini and Karma is a plus.
- Familiarity with Linux and Copernicus is a plus.
- Experience with all aspects of the rendering pipeline.
- Strong communication, task management and organisational skills.
Additional skills:
- Experience using Substance Designer or other similar software.
- Working knowledge of Python scripting.
- Working knowledge of Houdini/Solaris.
- Familiarity with USD.
