Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Scientist, Pharmaceuticals to join our Pharmaceutical business at our Düsseldorf, Germany, location. The Pharmaceutical Technical Centre is responsible for handling customer technical support, developing new applications for sales and marketing and internal and external training to support the business in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). This position will report to head of Life Sciences R&D, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Staff Scientist Pharmaceuticals (f/m/d) Lead and conduct hands-on scientific research in the lab on diverse pharmaceutical formulation projects, especially focused on oral solid dosage forms Solve complex technical challenges by applying advanced scientific and engineering principles in customer-driven or innovation-led projects Design and execute experiments independently, manage project timelines, and deliver results within critical deadlines Analyze experimental data and provide technical reports with actionable insights and strategic recommendations R&D, Manufacturing, Quality) in support of existing and new products through technical consultations, trial support, preparing and delivering presentations Engage directly with customers (R&D, Manufacturing, Quality) to deliver expert consultations, presentations, and hands-on support for product development and troubleshooting Collaborate with commercial and R&D teams to create compelling technical content, publications, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and global industry forums Represent Ashland at key industry events, showcasing research outcomes and engaging with stakeholders and potential partners In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following: Master’s degree (or equivalent/higher) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or related field, with significant pharmaceutical industry experience in formulation and product development Hands-on experience with key unit operations such as compaction, milling, granulation (wet/dry), film coating & fluid bed technologies ability to interpret complex data, generate reports, and present findings clearly Fluent in English, with strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel Ability and willingness to travel occasionally (up to 20-30%) across the EMEA region for customer support and conferences Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, stay organized, and adapt in a dynamic work environment Experience in a customer-facing technical support role or commercial collaboration environment Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals or presenting at global conferences At Ashland our vision is to be a leading, global specialty chemicals company whose inspired and engaged employees add value to all we touch.
