The Lab Manager, R&D at AskBio GmbH (Germany, Heidelberg) will be one of the key members to support the development of rAAV gene therapy with highly complex novel technologies. The successful candidate will directly or indirectly support all ongoing scientific projects in AskBio GmbH by contributing to other lab member’s projects (using the techniques listed in experience and skills) or by facilitating the environment for other lab member’s research (providing training, purchase orders; scheduling services).

This is a full-time, temporary position with an approximate duration of one year.

Job Responsibilities:

• Independently manage daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Design, implement, and oversee laboratory workflows to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
• Act as a key problem-solver by identifying and addressing potential issues proactively.
• Test new tools, reagents and equipment; establish and improve experimental protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure laboratory support for all ongoing projects.
• Maintain and update documentation, including SOPs, reports, and records.
• Function in occupational health and safety, communicate occupational safety & health and to organize emergency measures/first aid.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field and 2+ years’ relevant work experience OR Master’s degree in a scientific field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in coordination and organization tasks.
• Proven experience in laboratory management or a similar role.
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Fluency in English and German.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education, Experience And Skills:

• Ability to act independently and take initiative with minimal supervision.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and teams and work independently in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment.

Moreover, the ideal candidate should be independent in using and teaching basic methods and techniques in the fields of molecular and cellular biology, imaging-based techniques and high throughput screening techniques. Experience with various methods in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology or a related field are preferred.

• Tissue culture experience.
• Cell biology (e.g. immunofluorescence).
• Biochemistry (e.g. Western blotting, Chromatography).
• Molecular biology (e.g. molecular cloning, PCR, ddPCR).
• Next-generation sequencing methods or 3rd generation sequencing.
