Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Manager
Reports to: Volleyball Australia National Performance Director
Location: Beach Volleyball National Training Centre – Men\’s South Australian Sports Institute, Adelaide OR Beach Volleyball National Training Centre – Women\’s Queensland Academy of Sport, Brisbane
The Organisation: Volleyball Australia (VA) is the peak body for the administration of the sport of Volleyball in Australia. VA’s Mission is to lead, partner and support the growth in participation, performance, and profile of the sport in Australia.
Job Purpose: To lead, manage and deliver support to Volleyball Australia High Performance Programs in all aspects of Athlete Wellbeing. The AW&E Manager will deliver the VA AW&E Framework to support the holistic development, safety, and protection of athletes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Facilitate VA’s AW&E strategy and framework.
- Develop and maintain strong supportive relationships with VA’s HP athlete network both globally and domestically.
- Ensure that the HP athletes are engaged and are aware of all the available AW&E support available to them, by leading, managing and delivering wellbeing support to athletes, with the outcomes of:
- maintaining their focus on success in their sport;
- making a positive transition into life after sport;
- the ability to communicate positively about their life experiences in sport and transition into life after sport.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of the Australian sport system, in particular high-performance.
- Commitment to delivering best practice in career development support, education, vocational options and guidance.
- Contemporary knowledge of issues impacting mental health and wellbeing, and experience with implementing best practice support.
- Ability to establish and maintain connections with relevant industry networks.
- Ability to undertake leadership and management responsibilities.
- Experience of working directly in high performance sport programs and communicating with a wide range of audiences including external stakeholders, parents, and partner organisations.
- Knowledge of the structure and operation of Australian Volleyball.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in psychology and/or athlete wellbeing.
- Experience in developing and implementing long-term strategies.
- Experience in implementing case management or triage processes to ensure appropriate care.
- Demonstrated experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team within a high-performance environment.
- Proven experience in establishing and maintaining industry network connections.
- Experience in delivering a best practice approach to career development, education and vocational options.

- Ability to communicate effectively and proactively across all networks.
- Ability to lead the AW&E framework and vision throughout VA and all of its staff and athletes.

Working Conditions:
- Travel within Australia and internationally will be required.
- Comply with all policies set down by Volleyball Australia and ensure that they are implemented as appropriate.
- A current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) accreditation will be required.
