Executive Director, Biosecurity Victoria
Lead and deliver frontline biosecurity services, influencing strategy and policy at a local and national level. This role offers flexible location options: Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Melbourne, or Attwood.
As an agency within the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Agriculture Victoria collaborates with industry and community stakeholders to enhance the agriculture, food, and fibre sector\’s global competitiveness, innovation, and resilience. Biosecurity Victoria, a key division within Agriculture Victoria, manages biosecurity to ensure the prosperity of all Victorians, protecting against exotic pests and diseases vital for the agriculture sector and animal industries.
Reporting to the Chief Executive of Agriculture Victoria, the Executive Director, Biosecurity Victoria will lead the design and delivery of biosecurity strategy, operational policy, and regulatory services to manage biosecurity risks, minimizing adverse impacts on the economy, environment, and public health and safety. This role involves providing critical advice to the Chief Executive, Ministers, the Secretary, and senior stakeholders across government and the community, as well as representing the Victorian Government at various national forums. You will oversee risk-based regulation and compliance programs and contribute to future strategy design, ensuring Victoria remains at the forefront of biosecurity.
To excel in this role, you must be a proven senior leader, skilled at engaging and influencing at the Ministerial and Department level, and acting as a trusted advisor to key decision-makers. Your experience with biosecurity systems and animal health and welfare, combined with strategic and operational expertise, will allow you to adopt an \’Agriculture Victoria\‘ perspective rather than just a \’Biosecurity\‘ viewpoint. You will be comfortable navigating the legislative, regulatory, and policy environment related to biosecurity and emergency management, with a solid track record of managing and motivating multi-disciplinary and geographically-dispersed teams. Given the sustained priority of biosecurity for Government, an innovative approach to achieving outcomes in a complex and dynamic operating environment is essential.
