Scotford Fennessy have been retained by a reputed mining and mining services company to source a General Manager – Engineering for their manufacturing business unit.
COMPANY / STRUCTURE:
Family-owned, the injection of new senior management in recent years has seen the level of rigour and governance to corporate structures and processes. As part of this process, there has been a transition from individual leadership to leadership team structures. As part of this process, the need for dedicated management for the manufacturing business has been identified.
ROLE:
As expected at the General Manager level, this will be a highly autonomous role. The view is that you will leverage these new initiatives, add your own, and ensure they are implemented effectively to this business unit. It is expected that care will be taken to balance the addition of needed process, without adding excessive bureaucratic burden. In return, you will have a seat at the management table and the backing of Directors and senior management to take this business unit to the next level. The key remits of the role include:
- Project management of engineering builds
- Both from staffing and purchasing timeline perspectives
- Business development and marketing
- Existing successes have been through word of mouth – opportunity exists for a dedicated campaign
- Commercial considerations
- Profit and loss / budget performance, proposals, contract documentation and negotiation
- Team management
- Ensure accountability across the engineering and manufacturing functions
PRODUCT:
The key product line is unique and ‘saleable’ within the mining industry, so well positioned for a dedicated marketing campaign. There is ample room for growth of this business unit through the addition of other product lines, expansion into other markets, or alternative supply models (e.g., build to rent).
LOCATION:
Based in the South-West, this will best suit someone based in the Bunbury, Busselton, Australind, etc. region. Those on the southern end of Mandurah/surrounds could also find the commute manageable. Alternatively, there are senior managers who are Perth based who operate as quasi-DIDO on a 5/2 basis. Some flexibility around WFH and support around finding local accommodation can be discussed.
BENEFITS:
Remuneration will be negotiated in line with experience, with a guiding bracket of circa $300 – 350k (TFR).
ABOUT YOU:
- You will be an experienced Engineering General Manager or Engineering Manager (ideally at least 5 years management experience in addition to engineering foundation), looking to take more ownership over a business unit or ready to apply your existing experience to a new challenge.
- You will have experience managing P&L in the $50-100m bracket (or bigger).
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or Business disciplines are well-regarded.
