About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology team as a Senior Orthoptist – Community Outreach Lead , where you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the Ophthalmology team to ensure high-quality ophthalmic care for patients at the Women and Children’s Health Network.
  • Investigating and managing paediatric ophthalmology and ocular motility conditions.
  • Supporting the effective and efficient operation of Ophthalmology outpatient clinics.
  • Managing the community outreach service to provide specialist paediatric eye screening in the metropolitan Adelaide area.
  • Serving as lead clinical tutor for undergraduate Orthoptists from Australian universities and potentially overseas, overseeing their placements within the Women and Children’s Health Network.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to:

  • Hold an appropriate degree or Master’s Degree qualification in Orthoptics which entitles registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (AOB) and eligibility for membership of Orthoptics Australia (OA).
  • Possess extensive experience in the field of paediatric orthoptics; including strabismus, amblyopia, ocular motility, refractive error, and assessment of children with visual impairments.
  • Have experience with a wide range of orthoptic assessment procedures such as the Humphrey Visual Fields, OCT’s, and the Fundus Camera.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a varied workload and meet tight deadlines while working independently.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills for developing and maintaining effective relationships with peers, staff at all levels, and within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Show excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients and their families.
  • Be proficient in analysing and interpreting clinical data and applying specialist skills to resolve complex clinical assessment issues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage and oversee junior staff, fostering their growth and leading professional development reviews.
