About the role
Join our dynamic team as a Substations Engineer, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Metro\’s Substation (Primary) Engineering Discipline. We are looking for a seasoned professional who can navigate the complexities of change management, risk assessment, and engineering management systems—all while ensuring we meet our high standards of quality and cost-effectiveness.
This full-time, permanent position is based in the heart of Melbourne CBD on Collins Street.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct design reviews of Substation (Primary) designs, ensuring technical quality assurance and safety that aligns with MTM standards.
- Utilise your comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles to tackle a variety of challenges in Substations (Primary) Engineering, including detailed design, technical advice, and engineering projects.
- Stay ahead of the curve by keeping informed of innovations in primary equipment and recommending improvements to our design programmes.
- Serve as the go-to technical specialist for Substations Engineering, adeptly applying advanced concepts and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Propose and develop projects that align with MTM\’s business improvement initiatives and the Chief Engineer\’s vision.
- Produce and publish Electrical Standards, Technical specifications, and Engineering guidelines.
- Plan and coordinate scopes and schedules for multiple specialist projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
- Mentor and inspire the next generation of engineers, sharing your wisdom in Primary Substation equipment and systems.
About You
- You hold a Bachelor\’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or possess equivalent qualifications, with Registered Engineer Status as a minimum.
- Your advanced understanding of the Substation (Primary) Engineering Discipline encompasses maintenance, construction, and design. This should include experience in both HV AC and 1500VDC Systems.
- You excel at stakeholder engagement and thrive in managing complex relationships, including those with unions.
- With a background in operational team management, you know how to lead teams with critical responsibilities like fault management and control centres.
- Your experience with risk management processes allows you to provide insightful guidance on objectives, critical issues, and policy matters.
- You possess a working knowledge of earthing, bonding and electrolysis systems, particularly in relation to traction substation design.
- You have a thorough understanding of the asset management life cycle and its application in our field.
- You either have a Substation Authorised Person (AP) permit or are eager to obtain one, along with a Train Track Safety Awareness certification and First Aid Level 2.
