As a Transport Supervisor, you will provide strong leadership to our logistics team located at our Melbourne Branch in Brooklyn. You will provide effective leadership across all areas of logistics operations and functions which includes delivery route and maintenance fleet.
We are seeking a leader possessing 3 – 5 years of transport and logistics experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a Food Wholesale/General freight environment, with a high record of achievement in leading a large depot/warehousing facility.
Your focus will be to drive operational excellence by managing and controlling aspects of the operations whilst developing and influencing positive team outcomes. Comprehensive knowledge and experience in operations/logistics, sales, industrial relations, and contemporary leadership principles are important.
The role is responsible for supervising and ensuring load restraint guidelines are followed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate and empower employees through effective & open communication, excellent leadership, regular performance feedback, and team building to maximise customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and team productivity.
- Analyse day-to-day results in logistics operations and take action to meet logistics targets for service quality, loss and damage reduction, at optimum costs.
- Establish a customer-focused culture by implementing and managing initiatives and tools that aim to achieve customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention.
- Use standard tools and methods to ensure daily/weekly/monthly reporting, measuring, and control of resources, activity service performance, and cost.
- Ensure continuous improvement and share best practice implementation.
- Initiate and implement optimisation programmes to achieve efficient activities and target continuous improvement on incurred unit cost.
- Explore opportunities to improve service levels in the most cost-efficient way.
- Ensure all resources are focused to achieve high-quality service performance.
- Ensure staff are trained by identifying training needs and implementing programmes and people development strategies.
- Ability to understand and meet HACCP standards.
The Job:
- Managing the end of hire process, including asset inspections, reconciliations, and reporting equipment conditions and safety checks.
- Overseeing the completion of the loading of deliveries for customers, including driver familiarisation training.
- Responsible for the maintenance and repair of the fleet, including defect management.
- Ensure adherence to all department Health & Safety procedures and provide a safe environment for all employees and customers.
- Managing day-to-day operation of local deliveries.
- Ensuring all compliance and safety standards are practiced and adhered to at all times.
- Maintaining relationships and service levels with the customer through regular daily communication.
- Schedule drivers, assign delivery routes, assist with the hiring process for new drivers, maintain records of vehicle use and maintenance, and process trip logs or reports.
Experience Required:
- Three years relevant experience in an operations environment.
- Knowledge of optimisation processes.
- Knowledge of business levers, processes, structures, and finance.
- Good knowledge of operations processes and related technology.
- Proven track record of continuous improvement.
- Ability to realise concepts with a can-do mentality.
- Understands communication requirements in a multi-cultural environment.
- Proven experience and knowledge in effective training, coaching, and people management practices, including leadership development.
- Professional certification or equivalent level of experience.
- Three to five years people management experience, preferably gained from an operations role.
