About the Role

We are looking for a (Junior) Legal Counsel to join our Group Legal team in Berlin or Hamburg. In this role, you will provide legal support for our German and Austrian markets and contribute to legal matters across the Avarda Group.

This is a broad and varied position as you will gain exposure to many areas of law in a fast-moving fintech environment, working closely with colleagues across departments and jurisdictions. If you are early in your legal career and eager to grow, this is a great opportunity to build a strong foundation in-house.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advice & Day-to-Day Support

  • Advise internal stakeholders on civil law, contract law, consumer credit law, data privacy, competition law, and banking regulation

  • Support legal assessment of new and existing products with product and operations teams, including customer-facing matters (advertising claims, pre-contractual documentation)

  • Conduct legal research and prepare assessments on specific legal questions

Regulatory Change & Implementation

  • Monitor regulatory developments in Germany and Austria (consumer credit, payment services, banking supervision) and analyse their impact on products, processes, and documentation

  • Drive the legal workstream for regulatory implementation projects, coordinating with Commercial, Product, Operations, and Compliance

  • Keep customer contract documents (T&Cs, price lists, SECCI, etc.) updated in line with regulatory changes

Contracts & Disputes

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with business partners and service providers; contribute to contract templates and our CLM system

  • Handle legal disputes — correspondence with courts, lawyers, consumer protection associations, and regulators — and support coordination with external counsel

Group Collaboration & Training

  • Work with legal colleagues across Avarda's European markets on group-wide projects (e.g. AI governance, legal operations) and deliver internal trainings to build legal awareness

Qualifications and Experience

  • Law degree (First or Second State Exam, Wirtschaftsjurist/in, LL.B., LL.M., or equivalent) with 1–3 years of experience; alternatively, a qualified legal professional background (e.g. Rechtsanwaltsfachangestellte/r, Rechtsfachwirt/in) with 4+ years in financial services or a regulated environment

  • Interest in or exposure to consumer credit, payments, banking regulation, or fintech

  • Solid legal drafting and analytical skills

  • Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)

  • Proactive, well-organised, and comfortable working independently

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of European banking/consumer credit/payment services regulation (e.g. CCD II, PSD2, EBA Guidelines, deposit guarantee schemes)

  • Experience with data privacy/GDPR in a corporate setting

  • Familiarity with Austrian law, CLM tools, or legal tech

What We Offer

  • A broad, hands-on legal role with real responsibility from day one

  • Hybrid working model: On-site in Berlin or Hamburg at least three days per week, combined with remote flexibility

  • A collaborative, international team across multiple European markets

  • Room to grow: we invest in continuous learning and are committed to developing our people

  • Monthly non-cash benefit card and tax-free lunch allowance

  • Company pension scheme

  • Subsidised gym membership (Wellpass)

  • Subsidised Deutschlandticket
