Position overview The Assistant Plant Manager is a high-impact developmental role designed to prepare a high-potential leader for a future Plant Manager position. This role provides strategic exposure, leadership development, and increasing operational ownership while building deep expertise in the can manufacturing process and cross‑functional plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Learn and develop deep expertise in the can manufacturing process, equipment, and production flow.
Partner with the Plant Manager to drive plant performance aligned with company goals.
Lead cross‑functional initiatives across production, engineering, quality, and continuous improvement.
Champion safety, quality, and operational excellence through process improvements.
Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
Help manage plant costs and support efficient, cost‑effective operations.
Mentor and develop frontline leaders and supervisors.
Support employee engagement and a positive, high‑performance culture.
Serve as Acting Plant Manager during absences.
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and food safety standards.
Collaborate with corporate and internal teams to align plant and business priorities.
Take on increasing leadership responsibility through role rotations and an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
What We Are Looking For
Minimum 4+ years of manufacturing, operational excellence/continuous improvement experience in a dynamic international environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA preferred).
Capacity to lead a team and build strong employee relations.
Strategic thinker who connects day‑to‑day operations with long‑term goals.
Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to implement practical solutions.
Financial acumen with exposure to budgets and cost management.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and ability to influence at all levels.
Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to challenge the status quo.
Work Environment and Compensation This role requires full on‑site presence at our Ludesch plant.
Hiring Rate: €93,750 – €135,000 gross per year (final salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as internal equity and market benchmarks).
Bonus Plan: Eligible to participate in Ball’s annual incentive compensation program.
Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including pension provision, company doctor, and meal allowance.
