Overview
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a 1LOD Coordinator / Operational Risk Manager within the ITS – Strategy and Governance unit. The position is based in Basel, Switzerland, but the BIS welcomes applications from candidates worldwide and provides relocation support for the successful applicant and their dependants. Responsibilities
Collaborate with Technology and the 2LoD to identify and assess key and emerging risks for critical technology activities. Lead inherent, control, and residual risk assessments, ensuring quality and accuracy of each evaluation. Establish procedures for operations and controls, integrating bank‑wide risk policies and ensuring compliance. Monitor control activities and quality assurance procedures, collecting and analyzing control reports, KRIs, and incident data. Escalate breaches and report on operational incidents, facilitating root‑cause analysis and remediation. Maintain and report on risk tolerances, advising management to keep exposures within agreed limits. Provide tailored risk reporting across all hierarchies to present an accurate operational risk profile. Coordinate the closure of IT audit activities and CATs, acting as a trusted advisor on operational risk practices. Support management with guidance and advice on operational risks and incidents. Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Relevant university degree and at least 7 years of post‑graduate experience. Strong strategic thinking and problem‑solving ability in ambiguous situations. Significant experience in risk management and the 1LoD model for enterprise risk. Proven analytical skills with the ability to evaluate options and recommend pragmatic solutions. Experience implementing or coordinating 1LOD operational risk management at a commercial bank or financial market utility. Experience facilitating risk management workshops and developing workshop material. Experience coordinating interdisciplinary working groups, ideally in an international environment. Excellent drafting and written communication skills in English, especially for policy documentation. Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with a record of curating diverse perspectives. Benefits
