I am working with a specialist financial services firm that is developing a strategically important new digital retirement proposition. They are looking for an experienced Quality Assurance / Test Automation Manager to establish and drive a modern quality engineering approach across the platform.
This is not a traditional test coordination position. The role will focus heavily on test automation, quality engineering, CI/CD integration and shift-left testing, embedding quality throughout the full software development lifecycle.
You will define and evolve the overall testing strategy, working closely with Engineering, Product, Business Analysis and DevOps teams to create a scalable approach covering UI, API, integration, regression and end-to-end testing. You will also help establish quality gates, improve automation coverage and increase confidence across software releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the overall QA and test automation strategy across a complex digital platform.
- Design scalable and maintainable automated testing frameworks across UI, API, integration, regression and E2E testing.
- Embed automated testing within CI/CD pipelines, introducing effective quality gates and rapid feedback mechanisms.
- Establish a strong shift-left quality engineering approach, working closely with developers throughout the SDLC.
- Improve test architecture and automation coverage across the test pyramid.
- Support testing across cloud-native, microservices and distributed environments, including dynamic environments and containers.
- Define quality metrics, risk assessments and reporting to support informed release decisions.
- Lead, mentor and develop QA and test automation professionals.
- Partner with Product, Engineering and DevOps stakeholders to establish shared ownership of quality.
- Ensure appropriate levels of reliability, resilience, control and compliance within a regulated financial services environment.
Required Skills & Experience
- Several years of QA, Quality Engineering and Test Automation experience within complex, enterprise-scale systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern test automation tools and frameworks, covering UI, API, integration and regression testing.
- Proven experience designing and implementing automation-first testing strategies.
- Strong experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, including build, deployment and release processes.
- Practical experience testing cloud-based applications within DevOps and cloud-native environments.
- Understanding of microservices, distributed systems, containers and modern software architectures.
- Strong knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies, such as Scrum or SAFe, and experience embedding quality into Agile teams.
- Demonstrable experience leading, mentoring and developing QA/Test Automation teams.
- Experience defining quality metrics, assessing technology risk and using data to support release decisions.
- Strong understanding of test design, defect prevention, risk-based testing and engineering quality practices.
- Excellent cross-functional stakeholder management skills across Development, Product, Business Analysis and DevOps.
- Experience within financial services or another regulated environment would be highly advantageous.
