About Baringa:
We set out to build the world’s most trusted consulting firm – creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.
You’ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk, or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their organisations tick – slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.
We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world – from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there\’s a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.
Our Commodity and Energy Trading practice is looking for individuals at all levels of experience to join the team in Germany.
Our commodities and energy trading focused team supports the leading commodity traders across the full gas and LNG value chain. Natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) remain as key components required to meet global energy needs – both in terms of delivering security of supply and supporting the energy transition. As a key energy transition fuel, it will have a sustained, albeit changing role across the world as organisations come under increasing pressure to decarbonise to meet regulatory requirements and remain competitive.
We support clients worldwide in navigating these challenges and the opportunities it brings by helping them to translate strategy into action, and to revolutionise their trading businesses and IT landscapes. We’re looking for people to join our growing team who have a passion for LNG, gas and clean fuels and for collaborating with clients face to face to help solve their key challenges. You\’ll be involved in strategically significant client transformation projects, primarily in the UK and Europe, with opportunities to work on global initiatives.
What you will be doing
From launching a new LNG trading business to implementing integrated trading systems. Here are some examples of projects we typically get involved in:
- New trading business: Establishment of a LNG trading organization, navigating market reforms, and developing strategies for delivering net zero targets.
- Trading systems transformations: Implementations, upgrades and system selections for market leading trading organisations including new and innovative products.
- Business restructuring: Designing and implementing operating models for complex global organisations that cover the full trading and commodity lifecycle.
- Digital Transformation: Working with clients to mature their digital capabilities and embed ML and AI into their architectures, including improving commercial decision making and the trader decision support tooling in use.
Your skills and experience
We’re looking for people across all different levels of experience, from senior consultants with a few years under the belt to experienced senior managers and directors with several years of project delivery experience.
A well-rounded candidate should demonstrate a balance of strengths across three key areas:
- Trading Knowledge: Knowledge of global supply and demand factors that influence LNG prices, including key exporting and importing regions, trade routes, and seasonal demand variations. Familiarity with different types of LNG contracts, such as long-term contracts, spot contracts, and short-term agreements. Understanding of pricing mechanisms, including oil-linked pricing, gas-on-gas pricing, and hybrid models. Knowledge of major LNG pricing benchmarks, such as JKM (Japan Korea Marker), TTF (Title Transfer Facility), and Henry Hub, and how they influence global trade.
- Business Analyst Skills: Proven ability to analyze and shape business processes and solutions. This includes identifying and capturing business problems, understanding value drivers, and defining both functional and non-functional requirements to deliver impactful solutions.
- Project Delivery Skills: A strong track record of managing and delivering projects across their full lifecycle, from inception to completion. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability and effectiveness in various roles within the Software Development Life Cycle.
Additionally, we value candidates with expertise in:
- Digital Transformation: Experience in the development and delivery of digital trading consulting capabilities, including data-driven trading.
- Data Strategy and Management: Strong skills in developing and implementing data strategies, including data architecture, governance, and management, to enable better decision-making.
- Essential: advanced (C1) language skills in German and English.
As a consulting firm, we offer client-facing roles, which require candidates to thrive in dynamic environments and build strong relationships. For senior positions, we also expect:
- Project/Program Management: Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects or programs, including managing cross-functional teams, timelines, and budgets, using methodologies such as Agile.
- Leadership and Client Ownership: The ability to take ownership of client relationships, deliver results in client-facing environments, and effectively manage senior stakeholders.
