We are looking for a dynamic, strategic, and hands-on Head of Energy Portfolio Management to lead all power procurement and trading activities for a fast-growing clean energy technology company operating at the intersection of digitalisation, smart home solutions, and energy markets.
This is a high-impact leadership role: you will report directly to the company’s leadership and play a critical role in shaping energy purchasing strategy, market positioning, and innovation in one of Germany’s most progressive energy portfolios.
Your work will directly influence profitability, pricing competitiveness, and the long-term energy market strategy of the group.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management & Trading Strategy: Lead all activities related to power procurement, covering both long-term contracts and real-time market strategies. This includes short- and long-term forecasting, market monitoring, and the development of hedging and optimisation strategies.
- Operational Procurement: Own the execution of energy purchases across forward markets, day-ahead, and intraday trading environments.
- Pricing & Risk Management: Calculate competitive tariff procurement prices while minimising exposure to price volatility and imbalance energy risks.
- Market Analysis: Monitor key developments in German and European power markets, identify risks and opportunities, and inform strategic decisions with robust, data-driven insights.
- Regulatory Awareness: Keep abreast of energy regulations and ensure portfolio activities align with compliance frameworks.
- Product Development Support: Evaluate new energy-related product ideas from a commercial and technical viability standpoint.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with internal teams—especially software engineering and IT—to enhance system capabilities and data-driven processes.
- Innovation & Tech-Enabled Trading: Drive innovation in trading by leveraging AI-based forecasting models, algorithmic trading strategies, and custom-built tooling.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and inspire a growing team of analysts (currently 3) working with modern tools including Python and SQL. Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement.
Your Profile
- A degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Energy Economics or a comparable quantitative discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in energy portfolio management, energy trading, or similar power market roles.
- Strong understanding of the German power market (including regulatory landscape, market design, and trading mechanisms).
- Practical experience working with forecast models and large data sets.
- Analytical and strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a hands-on, pragmatic mindset.
- Highly organised, strong communicator, and able to work both independently and collaboratively—across functions and geographies.
- Fluent in both German and English (professional working proficiency).
- Bonus: Proficiency in Python and SQL is a strong plus.
What We Offer
- Full remote flexibility within Germany
- Work at the forefront of energy innovation, AI-driven trading, and digital energy services
- A collaborative environment with short decision-making paths
- Leadership autonomy with real strategic impact
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Opportunity to scale and shape a fast-growing energy portfolio
