PhD Scholarship in Solar Cell

The Laboratory for Thin Film Energy Materials at TalTech is offering a 4-year PhD scholarship focused on the development of binary and ternary Sb-chalcogenide based thin film solar cells for Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Indoor Photovoltaics (IPV). This research will explore the effects of silver (Ag) concentration in precursor solutions on the properties of Sb2S3 thin films and the formation of AgSbS2 ternary compounds. The successful candidate will engage in material characterization, device fabrication, and optimization in collaboration with renowned international research institutions.

Summary Table

Designation : PhD Candidate in Thin Film Solar Cell Development

Research Area : Chemical, Materials, and Energy Technology

Location : TalTech, Estonia

Eligibility/Qualification : Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field . Research experience in thin film technologies and material characterization is preferred.

Job Description

The PhD candidate will:

  • Identify suitable precursors for ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) deposition.
  • Synthesize precursors for Ag-doped Sb2S3 and AgSbS2 thin film fabrication.
  • Fabricate thin films and solar cells using USP.
  • Characterize materials and devices at TalTech and with international collaborators.
  • Optimize solar cell components including absorber layers and transport layers.
  • Analyze research data, prepare reports, present at conferences, and publish research articles.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit the following via the TalTech application portal:

  • A research plan detailing their understanding of the current state of Sb2S3 thin films and proposed activities for Ag-doping and AgSbS2 ternary compound development.
  • Additional required documents as specified on the portal.
